Candice pursed her lips and withdrew her gaze, placing the medicine within her reach before walking over to Alex and stopping beside him.
The wound on his shoulder extended from the back of his shoulder to the side of his collarbone, with some of the gash slightly separated. When Candice applied the medicine, she had to carefully dab away the surrounding moisture with a cotton swab.
Since she needed to be very careful, she needed to be closer to him. If Alex were sitting on the sofa, it would be difficult for her to find a suitable position. She sat on the nearby stool, lowered her eyes, and painstakingly tended to the wounds on his shoulder.
Alex laid back on the bed, supported by his back and abdomen, which emphasized his core strength and the clearly defined abdominal muscles. With the towel loosely draped, it slightly covered the lower half of his abdominal muscles and added a hint of charm.
When applying the medication, Candice happened to glance up and saw more than she expected.
She blinked lightly, pursed her lips, averted her gaze, and calmly said, "It's better to ask Sawyer to bring some preventive medicine when he comes back. It would be troublesome if it gets infected."
"Mm." Perhaps because he was lying down, Alex's voice sounded somewhat lazy and magnetic.
His gaze inadvertently swept over Candice's body.
She had her head lowered as she tended to his wounds. Her long hair was casually tied in a ponytail, revealing her slender neck.
A faintly strange emotion flickered imperceptibly in Alex's eyes; he tightened his lips and slowly looked away.
Candice lifted her head when she was finally done putting medicine on him. "The medicine is applied. You don't need to put on clothes yet."
Alex gazed at her with deep black eyes.
She suddenly realized the ambiguity in her words and added, "Putting on clothes might rub off the ointment, but since you're not going out now..."
There was no expression on Alex's face. His emotions had been subdued since leaving the hospital.
"I won't disturb your rest. I'll contact Sawyer later to see when he'll be back, so you can reach out to him if you need anything."
She was methodically arranging things until Alex spoke faintly, "I'm not a slave driver. I won't ask Sawyer to take care of me if he's injured."
Candice paused. "Then shall I call the front desk for you?"
His eyes stared directly at her. His exposed chest rose and fell rhythmically, with visible abdominal muscles and beautiful biceps, broad shoulders, and narrow waist.
She had always known that he had a good figure. Even though they had been intimate before, seeing his body now, she couldn't help but instinctively avoid his gaze.
Her attention had not been on his body while she was helping him with the medicine, but now that she had nothing else to do, Candice felt a subtle awkwardness.
Alex lowered his eyelids, hiding his thoughts, his voice heavy. "Is Darius's father still in Solaris?"
Hearing this, she raised her eyes to meet his intense gaze and frowned slightly. "Why do you ask?"
"Just curious." His tone was indifferent, and he flexed his arm, tightening his slim waistline in the process. "Darius entered the Quimby family as Belle's boyfriend and was later valued by Kelvin, who brought him into the Quimby family company for an internship..." Alex paused. "I investigated him, but there's no clear information about his family background in the data. I thought his family might not be well-off, but obviously, that's not the case."
He spoke candidly, not feeling that there was anything wrong with telling Candice about this.
It was Candice who was surprised. "There's no information about Darius's father in the records?"
"Not only him, but there's also no information about his mother."
Candice's face gradually turned serious. It was certain that Darius was Henry's son, but why couldn't they find any information about him? Moreover, judging by Henry's appearance, he should have been doing well in Solaris...
"Candice." Alex's black eyes concealed deep emotions. After pondering for a moment, he softly said, "Whether it's for your own sake or for other reasons, it's best not to have any more contact with Darius."
