His words were one of suggestive remarks; though his tone was stiff, the underlying tone gave off the vibes.
Candice paused for a moment and jokingly remarked, "Don't pick up all your habits from Yana."
Barox's face remained blank as he responded, "It's just a logical guess. I can't think of anyone else in Solaris who would help her. Anyway, it's best to be cautious."
His final words carried weight, genuinely cautioning Candice.
Candice nodded in agreement, saying, "I know."
"And as for Alex—" Barox seemed wise beyond his years as he hesitated for a moment before adding, "He's not that great."
This opinion wasn't solely based on what he had heard from Yana but also on his own observations of Alex. Despite Barox's usual limited words and impatience, Yana had repeatedly emphasized Candice's being her best friend, so he felt it necessary to offer a word of caution.
However, before he could finish, footsteps approached from behind.
Alex's deep voice cut through the air as he remarked, "Mr. Gort seems to have strong opinions about me."
Both Candice and Barox turned to face him.
Alex was clad in all black, his demeanor more serious than usual. His expression was neutral as he glanced down at Candice.
Barox didn't seem embarrassed about being caught speaking poorly of Alex. Instead, he raised his eyebrows and said, "Well, it looks like the owner of that luxury car wasn't Mr. Elysian."
Sawyer interjected, "Mr. Elysian has been attending a seminar on the first floor this entire time and just came out."
Candice's expression finally changed as she met Alex's gaze.
Alex had been looking at her throughout the exchange, their eyes meeting in the air.
"What luxury car?" Alex asked.
"Sonia arrived in a luxury car and left with Mr. Howles," Candice explained briefly, not dwelling on it.
With the evidence in hand, she was determined to take Sonia to court.
"It has nothing to do with me," Alex responded, dismissing the matter after a moment of silence.
Before Candice could reply, Barox interjected, "You should be grateful it's not involving you; otherwise, Candice could sue you too."
He then placed a reassuring hand on Candice’s shoulder and guided her outside.
Candice didn’t look back, but doubts began to gnaw at her. If not Alex, then who could it be? Quentin?
Her thoughts were interrupted by her phone ringing from an unknown number. Assuming it was Henry, she promptly ended the call.
Moments later, a text message arrived, “Disappointed, aren't you?”
Though it was simple, Candice immediately recognized the sender. It must be Sonia.
She stared at the message, her expression darkening.
Barox noticed her change in demeanor and asked quietly, "What's wrong?"
Candice didn't respond, but the next morning, she received a call from the police station requesting her presence for something requiring her cooperation.
On her way to the conference hall, she detoured to the police station.
The same officer from before greeted her and handed her a settlement letter, stating, "The other party is interested in settling and is willing to meet any conditions you have."
Candice studied the letter for a moment, her eyes then drifting to a poster on the wall that read "Righteousness is everlasting, and justice always wins".
