Hanley let out a soft sigh and dropped his smile.
The others had gone in different directions upon exiting the hospital, leaving only the two of them in the entire villa.
Hanley lowered his gaze to look at Candice, a flicker of pity passing through his eyes. He spoke gently, "Don't worry too much. Things will get better soon."
Candice's fork pierced the poached egg. The white split open, and the smooth yolk flowed out. It was a perfect soft-boiled egg.
Lowering her eyes to the broken egg, she asked in a subdued tone, "Do you think I can win this time?"
"You will," Hanley replied without hesitation.
Looking up at him, she inquired, "Are you just trying to comfort me?"
"Yes, but not only that." He fixed his gaze on her eyes, his tone solemn as he continued, "Candice, you need to know, you were right from the beginning, so you won't lose."
"But Yvonne jumped off the building," Candice finally uttered after a long pause. "Am I too stubborn?"
She was so fixated on getting an answer, and it had led Yvonne to lose her senses and jump off the building.
Just the thought of Yvonne kneeling in that bizarre posture, banging her head against the railing repeatedly while asking if she was satisfied, made Candice feel like a heavy weight pressing down on her, making it hard to breathe.
Since leaving the hospital, she had been trying hard to suppress her emotions, afraid of breaking down.
Yvonne’s deranged appearance had frightened her.
Sitting across from her, Hanley clearly saw the confusion and pain in Candice's eyes. He swallowed and said, "Candice, you are indeed stubborn, but you are also brave." After a moment's pause, he added, "Your grandfather would be very proud to see you like this."
Candice's hand holding the fork trembled slightly. She lowered her head, staring at the noodles in her bowl, biting her lip tightly.
She wasn't in a good state. She barely touched her food and went upstairs to rest.
But she couldn't sleep either. She decided to search for more cases involving Quil to distract herself.
Around 4 p.m. a message popped up on Whatsapp.
Angela had added her to a group chat, along with Yondu and a few others.
It was a message from Yondu, specifically mentioning Candice. "Mr. Bruce will reach the airport at 10 am tomorrow. Are you going to fetch him?"
Candice remained silent for a moment before replying with a simple, "Yes."
Going to the airport to pick up Jensen was something she had already discussed with Alex, and it couldn't be delayed. Moreover, it was also part of her job at Burning Star Studio.
Candice pinched her temple and got up to pack her bags. There wasn't much to pack, as her suitcase remained almost untouched.
Her flight was at 7 p.m. Candice dragged her luggage downstairs, coincidentally meeting with Ryan and the others returning.
"Are you leaving tonight?" Nadia asked.
"Yes, Jensen will arrive at the airport tomorrow morning."
"Then let the Boss take you. It's already dark outside, and it's not easy to get a cab around here."
As she finished speaking, Candice's phone rang. It was Alex.
He spoke as soon as he answered, "7 p.m. flight?"
Candice remained silent, waiting for his next words.
She heard his cold and deep voice say, "Sawyer will come to pick you up. We should discuss the matter regarding Jensen again."
She fell silent for a moment. "Okay."
