Candice hesitated for a moment before averting her gaze.
Alex entered the room, observing Candice's complexion before ringing the call bell for the doctor to come in and check on her.
After examining her, the doctor found nothing amiss except for her extreme fatigue.
Nonetheless, before leaving, he couldn't resist reminding her to rest more.
He advised, "Expectant mothers should avoid exhausting themselves. This kind of situation shouldn't happen again, as it could impact the fetus."
Once the doctor departed, Candice's attention inevitably shifted to Alex. She asked, "What brings you here?"
Alex hesitated briefly. The winter sunlight softened his gaze as he lowered his eyes to meet Candice's. He spoke gently, "Do you feel uncomfortable anywhere else?"
"The doctor just checked," Candice replied bluntly, getting straight to the point. She stated firmly, "If you don't have anything else to say, you should go. My friends will be back soon."
Alex froze at her words.
Waking up to find Alex there, Candice felt nothing in her heart. She didn't feel the need to question why he was in her hospital room.
The lawsuit was settled, and it felt like it was time to close several chapters.
However, Alex didn't leave. Instead, he looked at Candice and spoke in a heavier tone than before. He asked, "Can't you see that I'm worried about you?"
Candice met his gaze, her expression devoid of emotion.
"Yes, I can see that. Thanks."
Her indifferent response left Alex feeling frustrated, but he couldn't help but laugh.
With a snort, he added, "Harley asked me to let you know that you should visit the law firm again after this. Are you satisfied now?"
There were still some loose ends to tie up after the court case. Candice had been unconscious for two days, so she hadn't had the chance to drop by Southern Cross Firm.
"I'll go," she said, her attitude remaining cold.
Candice didn't mean to come off as cold. She had just woken up and wasn't feeling particularly cheerful. Plus, she didn't feel like dealing with Alex anymore. Whether it was Sonia or Alex, neither of them made her very happy in the end.
Yana's voice came from outside the door, saying, "Candy."
Pushing the door open with a bag in hand, Yana paused when she saw Alex. There was a hint of disdain in her voice as she remarked, "Well, aren't you quick on your feet?"
After exchanging a glance with Candice.
Yana cleared her throat and suggested, "Mr. Elysian, maybe you should leave now? Candy just woke up. She needs more rest."
Alex gave Candice a meaningful look before finally departing.
Candice immediately averted her gaze.
Once Alex was gone, Yana brought a bowl of chicken soup for Candice. She sighed and began, "You missed quite a bit. It was quite the drama. After you fainted the other day, we brought you here and ran into Alex."
Yana gestured toward the hallway. "Sonia is in the first room down the hall, across from Yvonne and Ivor. They're quite a sight, arranging their rooms like this as if they're not afraid they'll strangle each other in the middle of the night."
Candice had no idea that Sonia and the others were also at the hospital.
Yana continued, sharing the gossip she had heard over the past couple of days.
Aside from Yvonne and Ivor, who fought like cats and dogs upon seeing each other at the hospital, Sonia was also here. She had passed out in the courthouse and was brought to the hospital to recover.
"I heard from the nurse that she has some incurable congenital disease. She needs lifelong medication once it acts up," Yana whispered.
Candice listened quietly, not offering any comments. Whatever illness Sonia had was none of her concern.
