Candice was surprised. She turned away from the fireworks, pursed her lips, then smiled, and said, "Well, Happy New Year."
Hanley took away his hand, and then showed Candice the dust on his fingers. "Maybe you just got it accidentally."
"It's okay." Candice didn’t mind, and she also discovered that she wasn’t repulsed by Hanley's close contact.
Probably because Yana's words about finding a man that she whispered in Candice’s ears every day had had an effect. Candice's heartbeat suddenly accelerated.
Hanley had just protected her without hesitation, and Candice would be lying to say that she wasn’t touched at all.
So when one goes on a first date with someone they have a crush on, they must create suspense.
She took the ointment that the doctor had just brought over and was about to apply it to Hanley, but Hanley noticed Alex at the door.
He frowned slightly. "Mr. Elysian?"
Alex walked in expressionlessly, putting one hand in his pocket and looking domineering.
Although Hanley's injury was not caused by Alex, the people responsible had been part of his group, and Candice categorized him as one of them.
She still took the ointment and applied it to Hanley, her movements meticulous and gentle.
Hanley glanced at her, then raised his eyebrows and looked at Alex. "Is there an issue that brings you here so late?"
Alex hummed an acknowledgement. His gaze swept over Candice, and he said, "For your injury, William will reimburse the medical expenses, and also pay you a compensation fee. He is also fully responsible for all your expenses here. Is that all right?"
His words were meant to solve the problem.
Candice felt uncomfortable when she heard this. She stopped and raised her head and asked coldly, "What about an apology? They hurt Hanley like this and don't even bother to apologize?"
These rich heirs really had a similar nature and always had the assumption that money could solve all problems. Candice felt unhappy and looked at Alex with an increasingly cold expression.
Alex glanced at her with dark eyes and said calmly, "William is no longer here, he’s gone back."
Candice found it unbelievable. "He caused such a big ruckus, and then he asked you to apologize while he left?"
"Willliam's family is engaged in real estate, and I have conveyed his offer. If you insist on an apology, I will tell him again." Alex's tone was neither cold nor indifferent, but he was also reminding Candice.
People who were engaged in real estate had big families and big businesses. Seeing how William was so nonchalant about the whole situation, he probably had some confidence in his family reputation protecting him from reprisals.
If they insisted on asking for an apology, it would most probably be meaningless.
Candice had a stoic expression and didn’t want to talk anymore.
Hanley asked aloud, "What about Candice? They scared her quite a bit initially."
Alex looked at Candice. She was lowering her head again, applying medicine for Hanley. Her movements were gentle and slow, as if she were holding a precious treasure.
Candice could feel Alex's gaze on her, but she didn’t want to look up.
Outside the window, fireworks lit up again. Candice took a deep breath and said, "You should go back. It's late, and you shouldn't disturb Hanley's rest."
Alex’s eyes flickered imperceptibly, then a coldness slowly emerged. He snorted and turned to leave.
Candice followed him, closing the door behind him. She turned to see Hanley staring at her and explained softly, "You need rest for your injury. They will knock if they need to come in."

Alex was angered into laughter by Candice closing the door. She seemed so eager, as if she was afraid that he would come back.
