Candice felt the gaze of William, and couldn't help but tense up. Ever since she learned that William was sick, she had been avoiding him as much as possible.
Now she hoped he hadn't noticed her, especially since she was with Ellis.
Fortunately, William didn't seem to recognize her.
He was still casually chatting with his companions. Candice breathed a sigh of relief as the children’s ride stopped. She picked up Ellis and prepared to leave.
But as she got up, someone grabbed her shoulder. William's malicious voice sounded in her ear, "I knew this brat was annoying, turns out her mother is just as annoying."
The force he applied on her shoulder was strong. Candice was already half squatting because of Ellis, and now she couldn't get up under William's pressure.
She hid Ellis in her arms and tried to calm herself down. "Does Mr. Zanford need something from me?"
"Mr. Zanford?" William smirked maliciously as he pressed down on her shoulder, then grabbed her hair.
Candice had short hair. So when he pulled it, her entire head was lifted up.
Looking down at her from above, his eyes were full of malice. Candice's pupils shrank with her fear.
William seemed to enjoy her fear as he chuckled then squatted down and pushed her hard to the ground. "What are you afraid of? Weren't you very arrogant in front of me the other day?"
With William were several wealthy young men, none of whom Candice recognized as they were probably not from Alex's circle.
William seemed like he wanted to say something more, but was interrupted by a phone call. He glanced at his phone, his brows furrowing even more, but he still answered the call.
Once William left, Candice immediately returned to the hotel with Ellis.
Saying she wasn't afraid would be a lie; William's recent hostility was quite unsettling.
She immediately called Yana; she wanted to leave Dorrington City with Ellis.
Yana was also surprised to hear about her encounter with William. "What a coincidence, why is William still in Dorrington City?"
"I don't know."
"But you can't leave now, right? You still have to take Ellis for a follow-up examination, which should be done in the next couple of days. Just stay in the hotel, he shouldn't be able to track you down."
Candice fell silent.
Ellis had a tendency to be allergic to medications, which she inherited from Alex. It worried Candice, so she had said they would go for a check-up in a couple of days.
But Yana was right; she would just stay in the hotel. William shouldn't be able to find her here.
After this conversation, Candice wasn't in the mood to take Ellis out for a walk anymore. She was afraid of encountering the demon William.
Her phone rang unexpectedly, and she recognised Alex’s phone number.
Seeing those familiar numbers, her brow twitched slightly and felt an urge to hang up immediately.
But the ringing continued, and even Ellis looked over curiously. After hesitating for a moment, Candice picked up.
She remained silent, and the other end was quiet too, only the shallow breathing of Alex could be heard.
"Are you still in Dorrington City?" After a while, Alex's voice came lowly. "Shawn is hospitalized and wants to see you."

Coincidentally, Ellis had to go for a check-up, so Candice took her to the hospital. However, after thinking for a long time, she decided not to bring Ellis to see Shawn and instead called Yana to take care of Ellis.
Shawn was old and had some hypertension issues. He tried to sit up when he saw Candice, but she helped him back onto the bed.
"Good, good, good, seeing you makes me feel relieved." A trace of regret appeared on Shawn's weathered face. Even though he didn't continue, Candice could feel his emotions.
