My Mirror Image by Maybe Not (Candice And Alex’s) novel Chapter 496

Candice went to the hospital. Alex's wound was on his back, making it impossible for him to lie down. He sat on the sofa in the hospital room for a video conference.

Seeing Candice, he gestured slightly, his posture natural as if he were not in a hospital room but in his office.

She knew not to didn't disturb him and sat down nearby until a nurse came in to change his bandages.

Candice got up. "I'll step out first."

While Alex packed up, he asked, "What are you going out for?"

"You need to change your bandages."

He remained composed, glancing at the computer beside him. "It's not like you haven't seen it before."

His indifferent demeanor made Candice seem petty.

She hesitated for a moment, then heard the nurse say, "Family member, please don't leave yet. There are several surgeries in the department today, and we're short-staffed. Could you help me with something?"

Although Alex's injury was said to be not serious, Candice still furrowed her brows upon seeing it.

He had a habit of exercising, so he had broad shoulders and a narrow waist. As Alex took off his clothes and with his back to Candice, his figure became apparent.

However, she didn't let her eyes wander, only looking at the injured area.

The wound was below his shoulder blade, not very deep but quite long. It had required stitches.

Alex's face was pale, and the scar on his body looked somewhat ferocious, indicating the severity of the injury at the time.

Changing the bandages didn't take long. After the nurse left, she closed the door to the ward.

Alex leisurely put on his patient gown again, his slender fingers deftly working the buttons, moving from bottom to top, as if he were slowing down time, his movements unusually slow.

Candice gave him a glance. "How are things regarding William?"

Because Alex's injury had caused quite a stir, it had all been left to the Elysian family to handle. Candice had also witnessed William's ruthless methods and just wanted to stay away and not provoke him again.

The Zanford family was influential, and there would be a day when they would get William out. She didn't have the ability to fight an impossible battle.

Alex said, "His elder brother has come from South City, ready to protect William. The Zanford family is willing to spare no expense for him."

This outcome was within Candice's expectations. Just by seeing William's unruly behavior in South City, she knew how much the Zanford family protected him.

After all, the Zanford family had prestige. If they couldn't even take care of William, it would be embarrassing.

But even though she knew all this rationally, she still felt uncomfortable. After all, the threat to Ellis had been real.

In other words, she was insignificant and powerless to bring enough deterrent against William.

She lowered her eyes, lips tightly pressed.

Alex saw Candice's expression and paused before saying, "I won't agree. William is accustomed to wrongdoing and thinks Dorrington City is just like South City."

Candice raised her eyes, looking at Alex with a complex gaze, catching a glimpse of the intense anger and hostility in his eyes.

-

Alex wouldn't let William off, and he didn't show any mercy. He even pulled strings everywhere, locking William up, regardless of what the Zanford family did, they couldn't get William out.

Daniel even grew angry with Alex for this. The headquarters of Aether Corporation and the Zanford family had always cooperated, and Alex's move had completely offended the Zanford family.

Candice didn't care about the conflict between Helen and Alex, but from his attitude, she probably knew he wouldn't easily let William out.

After a moment of silence, she asked Alex, "Will William's matter affect Aether Corporation?" She mentioned Aether Corporation, obviously referring to Alex's branch.

He responded with a question. "Are you worried?"

"No, just asking casually," she replied with a straight face.

Alex chuckled lightly, as if finding her answer amusing.

Candice looked at him. "I just asked the doctor. He said your wound is fine, and you can be discharged in a couple of days."

Alex lifted his face, about to speak, when he heard Candice again.

"We're getting ready to leave."

His expression froze for a moment, then returned to coldness, his dark eyes fixed on Candice, "Where to? Back to South City?"

Candice didn't speak. She wasn't heading back to South City, but preparing to go abroad directly. William was a ticking time bomb that made her uneasy.

"When are you planning to leave?" Alex asked.

Candice hesitated this time. Alex's injury was somewhat related to her.

She replied in a low voice, "Let's wait until you're discharged. Then you can go home and recuperate."

A self-deprecating expression flickered across Alex's face, but he just nodded without saying anything. However, as she was about to leave, he suddenly stopped her.

"When you come tomorrow, bring Ellis with you." Candice instinctively wanted to refuse, but Alex said, "My friend is a pediatrician. I heard she's also allergic to medication. You can bring her over for a detailed examination."
