Alex was still wearing his hospital gown, with a coat draped over it. Ellis was happily clinging to his neck, looking like a very affectionate father-daughter pair.
This was the first time Candice had seen Alex in the past few days. In comparison, he had lost some weight, probably due to his previous high fever.
Candice looked at Ellis in his arms. Although she had not said anything yet, Alex already understood what she meant.
He put Ellis on the ground and then asked Candice, "Can I enter?"
The tone was hesitant, sounding somewhat constrained.
Candice replied, "Is anything the matter?"
Alex then entered the ward and said, "I won't let her catch a cold. I'm paying attention to that."
Candice realized he was answering her previous question. She nodded and said, "I know."
Ellis had been going to Alex's room these days and was always delighted to do so, indicating that Alex was indeed attentive.
Alex hesitated, looking at Candice. Despite his calm exterior, he was acutely aware of his own greed.
He wanted to look at her more, to be with her without reservation, just like earlier when she asked her question casually and effortlessly.
The Alex of the past did not take it to heart, yet now he felt that Candice's tone was so precious.
He had been silent all along, and Candice frowned lightly. Alex noticed her mood, a hint of disappointment flashing in his eyes, but he still said, "Darius is not a good person. Don't have too much contact with him. I'm afraid you'll suffer."
He spoke earnestly, fearing that Candice would not believe him.
"The Quimby family's affairs are not that simple. Solomon's disappearance is also related to Darius. If he approaches you for the sake of the Quimby family, you'd better not get involved."
Candice had initially doubted the relationship between the Quimby family and Darius. Now, hearing Alex say this, she could not help but be shocked.
However, Alex's reminder was well-intentioned, so she replied, "I understand, thank you."
As for the end of her cooperation with Darius and her upcoming return to her home country at the end of the month, she did not tell Alex.
Alex did want to stay a little longer in Candice's ward, but seeing that she did not seem very interested, he left.
He did not return to his own ward, but turned and headed to the hospital garden.
Looking at the somewhat overcast sky, Alex suddenly felt like smoking.
He looked up at the sky, his Adam's apple rolling lightly, bitterness and heaviness deep in his eyes.

After Alex left, Candice thought for a long time before contacting Jackson.
Although she was not clear about what had happened between Jackson and Darius, Alex was right. Darius was unfathomable, and Jackson would be better off being cautious.
Moreover, Darius obviously had the intention of dealing with Jackson, otherwise, he would not have asked her.
As soon as the phone connected, Jackson's deep voice came through. Candice paused slightly. Since she had known Jackson, this was the first time she had heard him speak in such a tone.
"Candice? What's wrong?" His voice sounded tired. "I've been really busy lately."
Candice came to her senses and said softly. "Do you have any grudges with Darius?"
Jackson was stunned. "Why do you ask?"
"Darius came to see me today, with Bella. He asked me if we were friends. I saw Miss Quimby looking very nervous, so I thought I'd ask you."
After she finished speaking, Jackson fell silent for a moment before swearing. "He found Ella so quickly?"
Candice was worried. "What is going on?"
Alex let out a muffled groan, sweat beading on his forehead.
Just as Candice had finished packing, Yana's call came in, her voice sounding very anxious. "Something's happened!"
In the background, there was the sound of Ellis crying loudly.
Without thinking much, Candice went straight upstairs. As soon as she entered Alex's ward, she saw Yana holding Ellis sitting on the sofa, and Ellis crying uncontrollably.
On the other side, two nurses were surrounding Alex.
Yana said, "The needle pierced his blood vessel on his hand, and a lot of blood flowed out. Baby Mulberry was scared to death."
When Ellis pounced, the needle in Alex's hand shifted, directly piercing the blood vessel, causing blood to instantly seep out.
After the nurse removed the needle, even more blood flowed out.
Ellis had never seen anything like this before, but she could sense that she had caused trouble and was frightened, crying inconsolably.
After finally calming her down and the nurse handling the situation, Alex's wound was covered with gauze.
Candice looked at the gauze on his hand and said, "I'm sorry, she caused you trouble."
Ellis' eyes were red from crying, still sniffling.
Alex walked over and gently touched Ellis' head with his uninjured hand, his voice soft, "Were you scared?"
But this touch made Ellis cry even louder for some reason.
Alex felt helpless. He looked at Candice instinctively, who frowned slightly.
Unexpectedly, the next moment, Ellis crawled down from the sofa and hugged Alex's leg, her voice soft as she sobbed. "Daddy... Pain..."
