Alex's voice was clear, his deep eyes looking at Candice. Although his face showed nothing, the fingers holding the thermos were slightly tight, indicating his nervousness.

Candice's brow furrowed slowly.

She looked at Alex with a puzzled expression, about to speak, when a soft voice came from inside the house. Ellis was awake and looking for her.

She quickly whispered to Alex, "You can take these back. There's no need to bring them to me. I'm going out later; I have plans to have breakfast with a friend." Pausing briefly, she added, "And also, don't say those things again in the future. I don't want to hear them."

Upon hearing her words, Alex's hopeful eyes dimmed, but he still stubbornly looked at Candice, showing no intention of taking back the things in his hand.

However, as if she hadn't seen the desolation in his eyes, she turned and walked back into the house.

Before she could enter, she saw Ellis already walking out with a wobbly gait.

With the recent rise in temperature, Ellis was dressed in yellow duck pajamas, barefoot as she came out.

She tugged at Candice's clothes. "Mommy."

Children have strong learning abilities, coupled with the language system Alex had been teaching her, so her speech was becoming clearer and clearer.

After calling her mom, Ellis's gaze landed on Alex. Seeing Alex's gentle gaze, Candice felt a strange sensation. In this little girl's veins flowed half of his blood, creating an unbreakable bond between them.

"Daddy!" Ellis's sweet and crisp voice brought Alex back from his thoughts.

He looked down at his daughter, who was running towards him like a misfired rocket with a crooked smile.

He quickly squatted down and lifted the little girl up.

Ellis nestled in his arms, motionless like a little cat.

Alex held her and was unable to contain the smile in his eyes. He looked at Candice and said, "Little Mulberry might be tired."

‘She’s just woken up. Why would she be tired?’ Candice thought to herself. However, she said nothing and simply turned to enter the house.

Alex followed with his daughter in his arms.

Candice's excuse of meeting a friend for breakfast wasn't just an excuse. She was planning to stop working here and return to her home country soon. There were many things she needed to explain to Lauren first.

Coincidentally, Lauren had mentioned that a nice breakfast place had opened near the company, so they had arranged to have breakfast together today.

When Candice arrived, Lauren was already there.

Lauren exaggeratedly looked at Candice. "Thank goodness you came back in one piece. You have no idea how worried I was when I heard you were kidnapped. Alex even called to ask about you."

Lauren's expression and actions were exaggerated.

"I had planned to visit you at the hospital,” she said. “After all, we're good colleagues, but I couldn't. The boss came, and there was too much work to do; I couldn't leave."

After chatting with her for a while, they got down to business.

Candice was returning home at the end of the month, and she needed to hand over her work and many documents to Lauren. Whether Lauren and the others would also return to their home country, Candice didn't say, and Lauren didn't ask.

After having breakfast with Lauren at the cafe, Candice went back to the company. She wasn't responsible for the specialized content in her field; she just needed to organize her client data and some other coordination work.

She finished her work much faster than she had expected. By the end of the morning shift, she had basically completed all her tasks.

Lauren accompanied her to the door. "Your decision to return home was so sudden. Is it because of Alex? Are you both going back together?"
