After an additional hour of conversation with Draven, he agreed for us to start with a more friendly and less physical relationship. I was relieved by his sudden change. It put less pressure on us and allowed things to move at their own pace. I shoved away an urge to make Draven talk about his relationship with Jetta. I did it for my own sake… and because I knew she was in my group, and I would have plenty of time to observe her behavior towards Draven. Certainly, I was suspicious, but I got tired of unnecessary drama in my life.
The next morning, Draven organized training on the grounds, where I could see the entire army working out. Draven assigned himself as my sparring partner. He did it as clearly as he could, announcing it aloud while wrapping his arm around my shoulder. Thankfully, Patrick was training his soldiers elsewhere. I bet he would burst out if he saw Draven acting the way he did…
I stopped pushing Draven away. I decided to wholeheartedly give him a chance, but at the same time, I didn't want to find excuses for him once he'd screwed something up again. My heart was slowly reacting to the tiny things he did, but I was yet to be able to name what I felt.
Draven and I put on a show for everyone to see. I must admit that I felt proud of myself and satisfied when the whole elite squad cheered for me, applauding my fighting skills. It gave me the boost of energy that I needed for an amazingly long time.
"It's incredible! You can actually keep up with Alpha!" Raiden called out with his eyes wide open when we stopped our little match.
"She almost defeated my wolf previously," Draven claimed, smirking.
"You fought Alpha's wolf?!" A red-haired she-wolf gasped violently.
"Well, yes, I did," I answered, forming a nervous smile on my face.
"Wow!" she exclaimed, jumping in place. "Teach me!" She grabbed my hands, locking her sparkling blue eyes on me.
My smile turned from nervous to awkward. I looked at Draven, hoping he would give me a hand in this situation, but he only chuckled.
"Chloe, let the girl breathe, will ya?" Raiden patted the red-haired on the shoulder. "Maybe Lilith could teach you something once we win the war." He winked at me.
Chloe kept staring into my eyes with an agitated grin on her face. "At least tell me that you're in my group. Please?" She waved her adorable long lashes.
"She's in Alpha's group," Jetta tossed angrily, suddenly appearing beside me. "You can keep dreaming, Chloe. Alpha made her an elite," she sneered, casting a meaningful glance at me.
Jetta was truly getting on my nerves. Whatever she did or said sounded like an offense. I seriously wanted to punch her. I stretched my lips into a smile while giving her a cold stare, then my eyes turned to Chloe.
"I will gladly help you out if Alpha agrees," I smiled at her and looked at Draven.
He nodded, and Chloe instantly threw her arms around me. "Great! You're the best, Lilith!"
Her enthusiasm nearly choked me. I had to push her away to control her excitement.
"Sorry," she giggled, bowing apologetically, and then she ran somewhere, called by her group's leader.
Jetta looked me up and down and clicked her tongue. I was sick and tired of her attitude. I wasn't going to tolerate her ridiculous behavior, and I knew I could either let her know now or burst out with it somewhere during the battle.
I took a step towards her. "Is there a reason why you hate me, Jetta?" I hissed through a cold smile.
She scoffed, "I just hate people trying to take a place that doesn't belong to them."
"I'm not taking anyone's place." I spread my arms, annoyed by her baseless accusations.
"Do you think you could ever become a werewolf Queen?" She burst into vicious laughter.
"I've never wanted to-"
"You will never be accepted! A human will never be able to become Queen or Luna! You should go back to where you came from, vampire whore!"
I punched her. I let my anger get the best of me, and I hit the left side of her jaw with my fist. Jetta swayed and then collapsed to her knees. I heard growls and gasps around me.
"Lilith!" Draven jerked my hand, turning me to face him.
He looked at me with fury in his eyes, as if I was the one who did something wrong. Then I saw him looking at Jetta, his eyes filled with concern. My blood boiled. I twisted my hand to release it from Draven's grip.
"If you don't want your precious mutt to get hurt, you'd better keep her away from me." I made sure that the rage in my eyes confirmed that I meant every word. "I will not tolerate anyone disrespecting me, especially some bitch who tries to get into your bed."
"Lilith, stop it… Be reasonable." His voice became softer, but not any less irritating.
"Reasonable?" I chuckled sarcastically. "You know, a guy who tries to get a girl picks her side and not the side of someone who appears to be his lover. That is called being reasonable." I glared at him, then turned around and started heading back towards the mansion.
He ran after me, growling in anger. It took him a second to block my way. A second later, I was tossed over his shoulder, and he rushed to the mansion, carrying me like a sack of potatoes. I shouted, struggled, writhed, and banged him with my fists, but nothing worked. He held me tight, using so much strength that it hurt the more I tried to fight him. In the position I hung, my chances were equal to those of a Chihuahua going against a Rottweiler.
"Let me go!" I roared.
