I curled my lips. He had gotten better at bantering.
When I was about to banter right back, my phone rang. I looked at the caller ID and saw that it was Aaron.
Seeing that both Hendrix and Josiah were looking at me, I said indifferently, "I have to take this."
When Hendrix saw that the caller ID was Aaron, he slightly narrowed his eyes and said, "Just answer it right here!"
Lame!
I rolled my eyes at him and answered the phone. "What's the matter, Aaron?"
"It seemed that Hendrix is interested in Fantasia Company. We've been secretly competing with each other for a long time, and I've let go of this case. There's a high possibility that he'll get the case. What you have to do now is to find a way to persuade Hendrix to give up the idea of acquiring Fantasia Company." His voice was not loud, but the hall was quiet, so Hendrix and Josiah could hear him clearly.
Looking at the two of them, I said to the phone, "Okay, I've got to go."
"Don't!" Aaron hurriedly said, "Uncle Charles probably took you in as his goddaughter for some PR-related reason in Jarold City. You'd better keep a distance from Irvin. Besides, you have to go back to Ucrebury to deal with the matter with Fantasia Company as soon as possible. Uncle Charles will be leaving for the rest of the country for work. When you join the family, you can take this opportunity to do what you want!"
Hendrix looked at me, and the corners of his mouth curled up into a cold smile.
I ignored his expression and said to the phone, "Okay, got it. Bye."
After hanging up the phone, Hendrix looked at me. He was already moody before but he looked even grimmer now. "What are you trying to do? You even got Charles involved?"
"I want to..." Get a divorce!
I stopped in the middle of my sentence. I still had to ask him to give up Fantasia Company's acquisition. If I went against him, it would be difficult getting through to him during the discussion later.
