Josiah lifted his eyes to look at me. His eyes were calm, too calm that they seemed merciless. He said, "She was Natalie Roberts, Hendrix's cousin. Arianna, I didn't want to hurt you at the beginning, but the human heart is a huge crevice. Once the devil enters, no matter how you endure it, the consequences will still be fatal."
"So, I've become the sacrificial lamb between the both of you?" I couldn't understand his evil intentions, so I stood there and merely stared at him, flabbergasted.
He fiddled with the phone in his hands, saying, "You're not really a sacrifice, but just who Hendrix fell in love with. I'm still best friends with him. However, for the sake of fairness, what I have lost, he must lose too. If he doesn't experience the pain for himself, he will never know what losing the love of his life feels like."
I stared at him. I just couldn't understand Josiah. Kelsey had once mentioned that Uncle Trent had a daughter when he was young, but she had passed away many years ago due to an accident, so he never wanted another child thereafter.
I also knew that Hendrix had a younger cousin, who had been with Josiah for a while when they were young.
However, I have never been involved in their past, hence naturally I wouldn't know what their history was like.
I had no idea what kind of emotion he had towards Hendrix, but I knew that for him to reach that stage, his heart must have been corrupted a long time ago.
He looked at me, his gaze sorrowful with hints of complex emotions mixed inside. He said, "Sometimes, I think that you and Natalie are quite alike. When you handed the clothes back to me in Flora Hill, I saw her in you. Both of you are kind people. Later on, I wanted to help you leave Hendrix's side so that you could be free, but why didn't you leave him back then?"
He questioned me with a particularly sorrowful gaze. I pressed my lips together, unsure of how to answer him. It seemed that he wasn't looking for an answer from me either.
