Sven drove the dagger into the cave wall.
He still could not believe what had just happened. However, the bite marks on his arm were a constant reminder that it was all real.
Just now, the old man had clamped his teeth against Sven’s arm.
Sven hurriedly pulled the dagger out and drove it in again.
However, Sven did not expect the old man to begin aging rapidly the minute his teeth came into contact with his skin. The old man’s body, which had already been skinny to begin with, turned shriveled and finally became a pile of bones that lay scattered across the ground.
Sven gazed at the pile of bones before him nervously. Although he had fought on battlegrounds before, the sight still left him shocked and unsure how to proceed.
After regaining his senses, he left the dagger where it was and turned to dash toward the mountain’s peak after giving the fire one last look.
The bitterly cold northern winds brought about snowflakes that blanketed the land.
However, Sven did not feel any chills.
A glint appeared in his eyes, and the feeling of excitement coursed through him. He did not dare stop because, to his knowledge, this was how people felt right before they died. He had heard plenty of his battlemates describe such feelings before.
It started with the disappearance of pain, then feelings of warmth, and finally, coldness.
Just several steps left! He was almost there. Almost there!
Finally, he made it!
Sven’s consciousness was not as blurry as what he had initially expected. In fact, he felt even more alive than he had ever been. Without giving it too much thought, he looked at the stone statue at the mountain peak. Sure enough, he found a wooden box containing an envelope.
There was something odd about that envelope too. Despite the terrible weather conditions, it was still in pristine conditions.
He opened the envelope and saw a bunch of runes he did not understand. However, the map the old man gave him said all he needed to do was press his thumb onto the paper.
“What do you plan to do next, Nash?”
“I’m going in to take a look.”
“But…” Talroth had a worried look on his face.
Nash clapped Talroth on the shoulder.
“Don’t worry. I promised him I’d find a way to absorb the pearl’s powers, so I must honor my promise. I’m confident this entrance holds the key to my answers, so don’t worry. I’ll be right back after I take a look.
"Talroth, can you stay here and watch over the pearl and entrance for me?”
“If that’s the case, it seems that this is what must be done. Go ahead, Nash!”
