“But that was far from the truth.” 

Chloe explained, “A strict criteria for adopting a child in Usna is that the adoption must be done by a married couple. We don’t know how Lexi came about, but we know how much of a help Samson had been to us. As such, when he proposed to register their marriage for the sake of adoption, Linda didn’t oppose it. 

“As soon as they officially adopted Lexi, they proceeded with a divorce. None of the whole process was made known to the public. Announcing their marriage was a way to protect Lexi. Although Linda isn’t her biological mother, she cares about her more than anyone. 

“To be frank, Mr. Hunter, I do think you and Linda would make a great match. However, I can’t control how she thinks. At most, I’ll bring you up more often before her.” 

She recalled something and added, “At first, I didn’t understand why Linda would choose to adopt. It wasn’t until I got to know Lexi that I finally understood.” 

Luke told her to elaborate, and Chloe patiently explained. 

From how Linda and Lexi interacted, she could tell the two had a special bond. Linda and William used to have a baby, but it passed after only 61 days inside her body without her realizing it. 

Linda had always yearned to be a mother and have a child, yet when she experienced the loss of her baby, she didn’t feel the same anymore. 

However, Lexi, being the kind and obedient kid she was, slowly brought light back into Linda’s world. Through the time they spent together, Linda slowly healed her scar while Lexi became more open to accepting her as her mother. 

Luke was also aware of that. He thanked Chloe, “Thank you for telling me these, Chloe.” 

She said, “If I didn’t blurt that out earlier, I wouldn’t have told you. Anyway, Linda thinks you’re a good man and doesn’t want to hold you back.” 

“I like her, but she doesn’t need to respond to my feelings. There’s no holding anyone back when it comes to love. I believe my feelings for her are enough to accept her past. If there comes a day when Linda and I are together, I’ll treat Lexi like my own. I adore Linda for who she is and don’t mind her past.” 

Luke seemed to be the complete opposite of all the men Chloe encountered. 

“I’m glad you think that way, Mr. Hunter. In our culture, there aren’t many people who can accept a divorced mother.” 

“I’m a teacher from abroad. Of course, I’m not that old–fashioned. Besides, Linda was the victim in her marriage with William.”
