Chapter 23
sylvie woke up in an hospital room, Kage seated beside her bed.
She couldn’t remember much. But she knew she’d passed out in the car, or partially passed out.
She could remember being held close by someone, by Kage? She remembered the words “you’ll be fine
Hell, no. There was no way that had been Kage.
You awake,” he sighed, sitting up
Groaning, she sat up as well, her hand going over her head. She felt a lot better, but her head still ached.
“Yeah… she looked around. “You brought me here?”
“Well, do you think you’re capable of driving yourself here after passing out in the car?” His grumpy response as always.
She exhaled deeply. “Well, thank you. and sorry for the stress I might’ve caused
There was a temporary silence. Then, he asked. “why didn’t you tell me you were this sick? You could’ve taken a few days off
“Like you would’ve granted it.” she scoffed.
“I may be many things, Sylvie, but I still have a five percent kindness in me. Besides, of what use will it be if you ended up dead before the project is completed!”
Sylvie’s hand went across her tummy, but she brought it down as quickly as she could.
“Did um…the doctor say what was wrong with me?” She nervously asked.
She knew it as possible the doctor had detected the pregnancy, but there was no way he could’ve told Kage about it, right?
“He did.” He answered. “But he said he’d only tell you about it,”
Sylvie’s heart skipped a beat. The doctor definitely knew. But she wasn’t sure he’d told Kage yet
“Is there something I should know, Sylvie?” He asked.
Sylvie swallowed hard, her heart sinking into her stomach.
“Something like what?” She tried to hide her nervousness.
“I don’t know, but you didn’t have any complications from the miscarriage, did you?”
“Nope. There’s nothing to worry about, she chomped down on her inner cheeks
Nodding his head. he reclined in his seat again.
An hour later, Sylvie was ready to be discharged. Ahe was surprised that Kage stuck around.
She was with the doctor in his office where he prescribed some drugs for her.
“Um Sylvie, are you aware that you’re pregnant?” He asked the question she’d been anticipating
She released a shaky breath, glancing around the office. They were the only ones in it
YYes. I’m aware
The doctor looked inquisitively at her. She could tell he has some questions, but he didn’t have the right to ask
“Okay, you need to get as much rest as possible and keep up with these drugs. You and your baby should be fine.” he continued writing the prescription.
“Thanks”
Chapter 23
He finished and handed her the note,
“And um…one more thing, doctor; could you keep my condition private? I want to do things my way,” she requested.
“Oh! Of course, Ms. Over here, we take confidentiality very seriously. You have nothing to fear.
Sylvie stood up. Thank you. I’ll take my leave now.”
“Alright, do take care of yourself.”:
Kage to
Kage took her home. She had opposed the idea initially, wanting to take a cab, but he wouldn’t let her.
She gave directions him to her apartment to his driver, while she sat in the backseat with him. And after a while, they were in front of it. Kage had been operating his phone the entire time.
Her phone beeped while she was still in the car. She checked, thinking it was an important message. It turned out to be… what? “You sent me money?” She turned to him with surprise.
“Well, have you seen the way you eat? You do eat like you’re suffering
“Well, that’s only because I’m very hungry. It doesn’t mean I can’t afford my own meal. You know me, Kage, I’m not broke.”
“Gosh. Is there ever a time you stop talking, Sylvie Hawkins?” He grunted.
“Well… I don’t really like to talk all the time, but how can I help it when you’re my opponent?” She muttered.
