Chapter 52
Sylvie woke up hours later to find herself in her bedroom. Kage was seated by the window, holding a glass of wine, staring outside. But he knew when she was awake and turned to her..
“How’re you feeling?” His voice was cold.
She touched her neck, cracking it. “I feel much better.”
Realization set in. “How did you know I was in trouble? L… texted Westley. Did he show up?”
Kage was silent for some seconds before he replied. “You texted me.”
No way. Sylvie furrowed her brows. Reaching for her phone which was close to her on the bed, she checked her inbox and was shocked to know she’d texted Kage, not Westley. For God’s sake, how did she make sign a mistake?
“The guard I had on you was off the clock today, but I arrived just in time to see Brian driving off with you in his car. I had to ask for back up.”
She bit her inner cheeks, feeling a little edgy. She’d gotten herself into trouble. He wouldn’t let her hear the last of it, wouldn’t he
“Thank you,” she uttered genuinely, dropping her gaze to the bed.
She didn’t get a response in seconds.
“Seriously, Sylvie. I thought you had some dignity?
Her brows furrowed at his question. She lifted her gaze from the he’d to look at him.
“You cheating on Westley. You do know that, don’t you?”
“What’re you….
“The other day, it was with Lancelot in the office. Of course, you came up with some dumb excuse of me being the cause. So, how do you explain hanging out with today’s psychotic man? Do you think I wouldn’t know who he is? That he works for Pulse-Wave? Seriously? Of all the people to flirt with it, it had to be my enemy? What is wrong with you?”
“Nothing! There’s nothing wrong with me, okay? You’re getting it all wrong!”
“Oh, am I?” He stood up. “How can you even be pregnant and do all of these with so many men? What kind of a mother do you plan to be?”
“Stop saying nonsense, Kage; you’re starting to get on my nerves!
“Well, you’ve been getting on my nerves all this time! Cause sometimes, I look at you, and I don’t even recognize the woman I was married to. Or maybe it’s this way ’cause I never really married you from the depth of my heart.
Sylvie’s eyes were rimming with red now. She looked at him and wished she could stam his head against the wall just so he could stop talking. His words got to her so much they made her feel stupid.
Kage wasn’t thinking clearly. All he could see was his pregnant ex-wife who slept around. Why couldn’t she be decent at
He turned around, heading to the door.
“Do you even know why I was with Brian?” Her words halted him “Or you think I’d hang out with guys I don’t trust? If I trusted him, why would I send that text?”

Chapter 52
“What the hell are you saying?” He turned angrily to her, losing his patience.
“What I’m saying is, I didn’t go there for fun. Brian was someone I knew fork my past, and seeing that he worked for Pulse Wave, I thought I could get something out of him – something that has to do with the bunch!”
It was three seconds before Kage’s brows lowered, confusion shadowing his face.
“I don’t understand,” he shook his head. “Why would you
“When I was under the bed. I overhead you on the phone. I thought oh, Brian knows me, and he’s been trying to reach out
me for days. Why don’t I just go to him and ask a few questions? Maybe they’d be helpful to Kage,” a tear slid down her cheek.
“How was I supposed to know that the ba**d would drug me and try to hurt me? How exactly was I supposed to know?”
Kage was speechless now, wrapping his head sound the possibilities. It hardly made sense, but why would she do that?
She tore herself away from the bed, wiping her face. “I guess I was s**d for trying to help. Afterall, Kage Hawkins doesn’t need anyone’s help. He’s too powerful and will always get things sorted himself.”
Guilt stabbed him hard in the chest. Recalling all the terrible things he said to her… Oh, God.
She walked past him, opening the door. “You have to leave, I need to be alone.” She stared at an empty space, holding the
door open.
More guilt washed over him. He held her free hand dangling by her side. “Sylvie, Im… Can we just talk about it?”
Of course, he was never going to apologize. Kage never apologized.
“I said leave!” She snapped. “Else, I’ll leave this house myself and not return for days!”
He pinched his brows, wishing things had turned out a little different. But how could he have known she’d ever try to help? That was so unlike Sylvie..
“”I didn’t know, okay?” He was slowly walking out. “Come on. Sylvir, have you ever done anything to help? I couldn’t have…”
“Perhaps, all the harsh words you said to me could’ve been questions. Maybe then, you’d have understood my reasons, She glared hatefully at him.
He sighed, now standing on the other roads of the door. She tried shutting it in his face, but he wedged it with his hand. The anger in Sylvie’s eyes intensified. Her eyes were somewhat red as she looked at him. Like she could murder him.
“Kage…”
“I’m sorry,” the words tasted foreign on his tongue. Even Sylvie froze first two seconds before snapping back to reality.
She blinked and looked away, masking her surprise. “Just leave!”
He did. And she slammed the door hard.
By morning, Sylvie was calmer. After having breakfast -alone she returned upstairs to dress. When she was done she on her way down, she found a maid in the living room holding a bouquet of flowers.
“Oh, I was just about to come to your room, ma’am. Someone delivered this to you,” the young woman said with a small
smile.
That was when Sylvie noticed Kage in the corner of the room, by the wine counter. She looked at hun once before looking

away, taking the flowers from the maid.
“Thank you.”
There, she found a note, and she already had a smile on her face before she read it.
Found these lying carelessly in a shop, paid a few notes and it was mine. Have a nice day – Westley
She smiled, making it obvious. She sniffed the flowers, inhaling deeply. God, it smelt so good. they suited her.
She returned upstairs to keep the flowers. Kage was fuming with rage, but it was a good thing they weren’t exactly facing each other.
When Sylvie returned, she started for the door.
“Where are you going?” His hard voice came.
“Where else? To the office, of course,” she rolled her eyes, stopping at the door.
“And why would you want to go alone? Have you forgotten we always go together!”
“Yes-because I always wanted to go with you. But today, I feel like going alone.” She turned to glance at him. “There’s no part of our contract that insists we must go together, is there?”
He way tongue-tied, but it pi**ed him.
Turning back to the door, she opened it and left.
Kage had a lot running through his mind, one of which was the Pulse Wave launch. It was in two days time, and if he didn’t have do anything about it, he might really be in trouble. He hated being kept in the dark in this manner.
Reaching the company, he thought of stopping by at Sylvie’s office, but she was probably still pi**ed, so he figured it was best
he let her be
However, when he approached his office, his secretary handed him a note in a small envelope.
“Ms. Price asked me to give this to you.”
His brows furrowed, he collected the note from her. “Where’s she?”
She couldn’t possibly be having any crazy thoughts, could she?
“I think she should be in her office, sir.”
