Nine months too late: After divorce by Baby Charlene novel Chapter 65

Chapter 65
Three days later, Sylvie needed to get her antenatal. As she sat in her car which was just parked in the lot, she recalled her plans of having it with Kage today. But there she was, alone.
She glanced at her phone, the thought ringing through. Why didn’t he try to reach her at least? Had be forgotten they were supposed to go for it together? Or he probably didn’t care anymore.

She closed her eyes, trying to push the images away the images of how good it’d be to have Kage beside her while they watch their babies together.
She looked at her phone once more and finally, fell for the templation. She grabbed it, her fingers a little shaky as she placed
the call.
All she had to do was remind him. It was nothing serious.
Unfortunately, the call didn’t go through, with his line not being reachable.
She exhaled deeply, her eyes becoming sad as she dropped the phone and started the car. She’d have to do it alone, then
He’s probably busy, in a meeting or something she told herself Or maybe he’s with Lana
Her mood was down as she walked into the hospital, took a spot in the waiting corner until it was her turn to see the doctor. Majority of the time, her hand was on her bump.
She wore a jacket over her dress which could perfectly conceal it. But Sylvie was tired of the coverups already.
After what felt like an eternity to her, it got to her turn. She went into the office and met Meredith scribbling down in her book.
“Hey, Sylvie. How’re our bunnies doing?” Meredith flashed a smile, looking at her briefly before returning her gaze to the book
“Hey, doctor. We’re good.”
She sat on the bed. Meredith chuckled. She always found it funny when Sylvie called her a doctor. They’ve developed a relationship where they didn’t need the formalities.
“I thought you told me you’d be coming with Kage today?” She dropped her book, setting the place up.
If Sylvie’s mood could get any worst, she might probably burst into tears.
“Y–Yeah. He got um.. caught up with something,” she cleared her throat – cleared the lie off her throat. “Can we just ger started?”
She wanted to round up and leave as soon as possible.
“Yeah, sure. Come on.
Meredith led her to lie flat on her back. She applied the ultrasound gel, got the ultrasound machine ready and was about initiating the process when someone knocked.
Meredith cursed under her breath.
“Who’s it?” Her voice was a little harsh. Tve told them not to disturb when I’m with a patient. She turned to Sylvie and muttered.

The door opened revealing a small nurse. “Sorry for disturbing, doctor, but Mr. Hawkins is here, and he said he’s supposed
to be in here with her
Sylvie’s heart sk**ped a beat, her stomach fluttering. Her lips parted as she looked at the door, like she could see through.
“Oh… Meredith smiled. “Please let hin through”
The nurse nodded and left.
“Looks like he isn’t too busy afterall, Meredith chuckled.
The door opened again. revealing Kage who showed up in a black tuxedo suit.
Sylvie swallowed hard, her heart still s***ng beats.
He did come. She lowered her gaze, not wanting the **id t****ts to spill. She understood that being easily emotional was normal with pregnancy, but was it really necessary at this point!-
“Good morning, Mr. Hawkins. I’m glad to have you here. Meredith offered a smile, bobbing her head.
Kage inclined his head at her, then looked at Sylvie. “How’re you doing?”
She hesitated a little before she got the response out. “I’m fine.”
The tension between them was thick, and the silence was
Meredith cleared her throat. “Um… can we continue?”
thick.
“Yes, please Sylvie answered, wanting something to distract herself from the man standing beside her.
Meredith began the scan, and in no time, her little bunnies were on the screen.
Sylvie couldn’t hide her smile, a tear rolling down as she stared at them.
They were right there, round and cuddled together. Oh, God, now she couldn’t wait to see them, to hold them.
“They’re so beautiful,” she held onto a hand beside her- Meredith’s hand she believed.
She chuckled, another tear rolling down. They couldn’t ascertain their genders yet, but she wished it’d be a male and a female.
She glanced up at Kage and found him staring intently at the screen. He wasn’t smiling, but there was that hint of happiness in his face – a hint that deep down, he was overjoyed.
The hand she was holding pressed hers tighter, closer. And if wasn’t until that moment that Sylvie realized it wasn’t Meredith’s hand she’d been holding. It was Kage.
She gasped and tried letting go of it immediately, but he didn’t let her, holding it tighter.
She looked up at his face, and a cold ran down her spine when she found him staring back at her.
Meredith spoke up, pointing at something in the screen. Sylvie cleared her throat as she forced her eyes and attention back to Meredith.
A while later, they finished from Meredith’s office and walked out of the hospital together. There was an awkward silence between them at first.

“I wasn’t expecting you to come.” Sylvie broke the silence, her eyes looking at everywhere else but him.
“Even if we get involved in a brutal fight, I’ll still show up for my kids when I have to, Sylvie
His response sent another cold inching through her. It didn’t stop him from being a jerk.
“So, are you done avoiding me?” He asked by the time they reached their cars.
They stopped working, facing each other.
“Come home, Sylvie. I’ve been patient enough.”

“To what end?” She sighed. “I come home, and then what happens? There is Lana, Kage, and to be honest, I hate getting in the way of you two.”
“You’re not getting in anybody’s way.”
