Chapter 69
Sylvie was more nervous than she had been in a long time.
She was finally through with her contract with Kage and would be rounding up at the office with him. Now that the office work was out of the way, what was left was the agreement of living with him.
She didn’t know how to go about that yet, but she needed to find way to break it.
Reaching her office, she got to work immediately, trying to wrap things up. It was a good thing Lancelot hadn’t bothered her yet after the last time. She didn’t want to know if he was cooking up something bigger-she was just happy she hadn’t met him again, and hopefully, she wouldn’t, since she was already leaving the company.
By ten a.m… she and Kage had to go for one final inspection.
Sylvie had been nervous about meeting him, considering the conversation they had the previous night.
She phoned him, telling him she was ready for the meeting. Within minutes, he showed up, and they headed out together.
Sylvie was doing all she could to focus next to Kage. The whole time she’d known him, she’d tried not to think of his good looks, but after last night, she couldn’t help but take it all into consideration.
Kage was one fine man with effortless charms. In terms of looks, Sylvie had seen men who were more handsome than he was. But of course, he had the worst character.
She could also notice how tense he was beside her. God, she wished last night hadn’t happened.
They were standing before the elevator, and when it opened up, Lana was one of the people who stepped out. It looked like she was just arriving and appeared surprised when she saw Kage… and Sylvie.
“Hey, babe. She directed her smile at Kage. “Heading out?”
Sylvie’s stomach churned when Lana walked up to him, pecking his lips.
Sylvie didn’t know if she was just imagining things or if Kage didn’t seem to look pleased about it.
“Yes,” he answered, pulling away from the hug. “We’ll talk later.”
He stepped into the elevator with Sylvie, who wished she could vanish somehow.
“If you had another chance, would you stop me from getting married to Lana?” His words from last night revisited her mind.
How could he even say such words to her when Lana was pregnant for him? He should love her. Sylvie couldn’t find herself being caught in such a web.
They reached the inspection site, barely saying a word to each other. They spent quite some time there before heading back to the company.
Sylvie was becoming uncomfortable with the growing silence. She could count the words they’d spoken to each other since that morning, and all of them had been formal
She felt a deep sense of loss when she reached the office. It was time to leave.
In a couple of hours, Sylvie was done packing her things and was ready to leave. She had to go to Kage to tell him about it, of
course.

He wasn’t in when she reached his office, so she had to wait for a few more minutes before he returned.

Seeing her there, his countenance fell. It was as if he knew she was coming to tell him she was leaving, and he didn’t feel good about it.
She followed him into the office. While he took his seat, she remained standing.
“Um…” she fiddled with her nails, trying not to look him in the face. “I just came over to tell you it’s time to go.” She paused for a few seconds.
Kage busied himself with his system.
“I’ve given all the necessary files to Atty. She’ll pass them to you when you need them. Um… thank you for your time, effort, and resources. Thank you for giving my company this chance.”
Kage stilled, dragging his eyes from his system to her face. “Okay His voice was tight. “I guess the deal was meant to end someday
Silence stretched between them, as if one was waiting for the other to say something.
“When are you coming home?” he finally asked.
Sylvie almost rolled her eyes. She’d been hoping he wouldn’t ask about that.
I don’t know,” she muttered, her gaze dropping to the floor. “Westley is still…”
Westley has a family,” his voice was hard as he spoke over her. Plus, we didn’t put Westley into consideration when we were signing the contract. I have no business with Westley, Sylvie.”
Sylvie almost took offense to his words. But these men had been enemies for so long. It was quite unfortunate that she was stuck in the middle.
“You’ve been away for more than a week now,” he continued, randomly picking up some files. “Don’t you think I’ve been considerate enough? I need you back.”
I need you back. The way he said the words it was far less of protection and more of dominance. Like he truly needed her around.
She lowered her head, so many thoughts running through her mind. Tll try to be…”
“I need you back tomorrow.”
She looked up at him in surprise. What?
“I don’t know if…”
“You just need to make it happen, Sylvie. That is all I care about
She exhaled deeply.
“Okay,” she mumbled, “Goodbye.”
She left the office.

Despite what Kage wanted, Sylvie didn’t go to him the next day.

His family came around to celebrate it, seeing it as a major success. Sylvie took that as an excuse not to go home to Kage
The following day, she woke up a little sick. She had to stay in her room for plenty of hours until she was better by noon.
In the evening, she was going to meet him at the balcony but paused when she overheard himn making a call.
“Yes, I’ll be there soon,” he spoke into the phone.
“No. Just give me thirty minutes.
“And remember, this must remain between us. You can’t let anyone know.”
