lan noticed the weird looks from everyone and realized he might have misspoken. With a sheepish grin, he quickly explained, “Don’t get the wrong idea, folks. There was a bit of a mix–up last night, and I ended up crashing in Attorney Clara’s room.” 

The more he tried to clarify, the deeper he seemed to dig himself into a hole. 

Clara glanced at him with an icy stare, her cheeks flushed with a hint of rose. Her lips parted several times, but no sound came out. 

lan’s eyes were brimming with mischief he couldn’t quite hide. He leaned toward Clara and whispered, “Sorry, I shouldn’t have spilled the 

beans. My bad. 

“Zip it!” Clara snapped. She grabbed her suitcase and strode towards the boarding gate. 

Watching her retreating figure, lan’s lips curved into a sly, knowing smile. 

Just then, his phone began to ring. It was Edwin on the line, and lan’s brows furrowed as he picked up. 

An anxious voice came through, “lan, Heidi’s in a lot of pain. I took her to the hospital, and the doc says it’s complications from an old surgery. She’s been in that damp and gloomy place for over a month, suffered enough. Come on, man, for my sake, let her come back home. Il make sure someone keeps an eye on her so she won’t hurt Clara again.” 

lan’s good mood had evaporated with the call. His voice was chilly as he spoke, “You’d better keep your word. If she doesn’t leam her lesson, next time it won’t just be a slap on the wrist.” 

Edwin exhaled in relief, “I promise, you have my word.” 

After hanging up, a tearful Heidi immediately asked, “Bro, what did lan say? Is he coming to see me?” 

Edwin sighed, Tve told you before, lan’s not into you. You’ve caused enough trouble for both families. Why chase after him when there are plenty of good guys out there?” 

Heidi looked at him with puppy–dog eyes, “I’m just following your lead. Why can’t you forget that girl in your heart? Is it wrong to love someone?” 

Edwin was rentiered speechless by the question, and suddenly, the image of a girl flashed through his mind. He rubbed Heidi’s head, “Rest up. Ill go ask the doctor about your condition. 

Knocking on the office door, he saw a woman in her fifties sitting inside. She looked familiar. 

Edwin paused at the door, then ventured, “Mrs. Brenna, is that you?” 

Brenna was taken aback.
