"Had it not been for you, she wouldn't have ended up like this. You ruined your own flesh and blood with your own hands!"
At those words, Leonora's eyes widened in disbelief. "No way, how did Clara not die? Heidi didn't end up severely burnt. You're lying to me. I won't believe it!" She grabbed Paolo by his shirt, her hands itching to strangle the life out of him.
Just then, the prison cafeteria's TV was airing the news. On the screen, Leonora saw Clara.
Dressed in a light blue mermaid dress, Clara stood beside Ian, surrounded by the York family, each member taking their turn to toast with her.
"Here's a brief news update: the prestigious York family has found their granddaughter who went missing over twenty years ago. Last night, a grand family reunion feast was held at the York mansion.
The undefeated legal eagle Clara turns out to be the jewel of the York family. Her love story with Ian, the CEO of Hayes Corporation, has won the hearts of netizens everywhere. Now, with the Yorks and Hayes families joining forces, the city has a new true power couple."
Watching the reporter's segment, Leonora felt as if she was going mad. Her daughter was left badly burned, and that bitched Clara was welcomed back by the York family with open arms.
Everything Leonara had done was for naught.
She slumped to the floor with a thud, wailing in agony. The other inmates in the cafeteria cast disdainful looks her way. The on-duty guard approached, nudging Leonora's shoe with his foot, and said in a cold tone, "Leonora, cut the drama. You've got a visitor."
Hearing about a visitor, Leonora immediately stifled her sobs. She had to seize any chance to get out. She couldn't let her daughter suffer like this, nor could she allow Clara and Ian to live so blissfully.
