“But you just couldn't stop hurting Clara, repeatedly putting her through near-death experiences. When you were first locked up, I felt horrible. I thought that if you could turn over a new leaf when you got out, I'd treat you right. Butyou were reckless and tried to cheat death by escaping prison and even attempting to burn Clara alive. Heidi, it wasn't until then that I completely lost all hope in you as a sister. I wanted to save you, but you brought this on yourself, and you can't blame anyone else."
Hearing these words, Heidi let out a pained howl. She thought Edwin had long abandoned her and that he no longer cared to deal with her. She never considered that he had thought about giving her a chance to start over, that she had failed to seize it.
Contemplating this irreversible path, Heidi broke down in tears. Edwin pulled out a tissue and wiped away her tears with an emotionless voice.
"When I learned your mother was Leonora, any sibling affection I had for you crumbled. She was my mother's dearest friend, but she'd kill my mother just to get you back into the Campbell family. Heidi, from now on, we're strangers. You're nothing to me but the daughter of my mother's killer."
He had someone draw some blood from Heidi, and then he left.
Heidi lay alone on the hospital bed, replaying Edwin's words in her mind. She was Leonora and Paolo's child. Leonora was May's murderer. That meant Ian's mother was Clara's mother's killer.
A grudge as deep as matricide was irreconcilable. With this relation unveiled, could Clara still marry Ian?
Heidi received this news, and her usually despondent demeanor suddenly cracked a cunning smile.
