He didn't know how Clara would react when he proposed divorce. He desperately wished for more time for Clara to gradually adapt to everything as it was now.
Ian carried Clara into Casey's hospital room. Upon entering, Clara saw her father's body entangled with medical devices.
Darkness seemed to envelop her vision. Her throat felt as if it were pierced by countless thorns, the pain making it impossible for her to breathe.
She sat beside Casey's bed, softly calling out, "Dad."
Casey showed no response. He lay there quietly.
Clara's small hand tightly grasped her father's, tears continuously streaming down her cheeks.
"Dad, when I was little, you held my hand just like this. You said as long as you didn't let go, I would never be alone. Now, I'm holding your hand the same way. I'm begging you not to leave me, okay? The baby is gone. If you leave too, I don't know how I'll carry on. Dad, you always loved me the most, didn't you? I'm begging you, please wake up. Please... look at how pitiful I am now."
She cried uncontrollably, leaning over Casey's hospital bed. Her whole body trembled without cease.
She cried for a long long time before she slowly sat up. Tears clouded her vision as she looked at Casey. "What did the doctor say?"
Ian's voice trembled, "The doctor said his brain suffered a severe impact, causing tissue damage. Waking up would require a miracle. I've already contacted the best specialists abroad for a consultation and sent people to find a miraculous healer. I heard she's exceptional at acupuncture and capable of bringing the dead back to life, but she has always been mysterious. No one knows her whereabouts."
Despite her confusion, Clara quickly grasped Ian's meaning. "So, you're saying this miraculous healer is our best hope for saving my dad, right?"
