Clara's heart was aching beyond words. Yet, she had always restrained her emotions, silently shedding tears.

She lifted her gaze to Ian, her voice choked with emotion. "Ian, when we got married, you said that in the days to come, through sickness and health, through hardship and ease, we would walk through it together. Were all those vows just a formality to you?"

"Clara, I'm sorry, but I can't bear to see you get hurt anymore. If we separate, the York and Campbell families will return to how things were, and you and Dad will be safe. Connor knows you're my weakness, so he's been targeting you relentlessly. With you by my side, I can't fully commit to this battle. To save my mom and grandfather, to avenge our child, I have to leave you. Clara, because of me, you've lost too much. I don't want to drag you down anymore."

Clara stared at him with tear-filled eyes. "Ian, think about all the trials we've been through together. If I had let go even once, we wouldn't have made it this far. I've worked so hard to be with you. Can't you do the same? If you let go now, we will never have a chance to return to how things were. You will watch me marry someone else, Ian. If you can bear that, then I agree to separate."

Clara had cornered him. She knew Ian loved her; he couldn't bear to see her marry someone else.

She had already lost everything she could lose, so what more was there to fear?

At worst, it would mean death. But even in death, she wanted to be by Ian's side. She didn't want to see him fight alone.

Hearing her words, tears streamed down Ian's face. His Adam's apple bobbed uncontrollably.

He couldn't stand the thought of her marrying and having children with someone else. He couldn't bear the thought of her living a life without him, without any connection to him.

But what else could he do? Apart from separating, how else could he protect her?

Ian's tearful eyes quietly observed Clara. His voice was low and hoarse. "Clara, let's break up."
