Chapter 61
“Ollie is usually non-expressive. How did you bribe him? How did he get so attached to you, even giving you roses and handmade crafts?” Cedrick inched himself closer to her, and his hand that grabbed her wrist got tighter, too.” You’ve already borne a son for Jamie, so why are you still messing with my son?”
He was starting to wonder if Catelyn was a bad influence on Ollie. At this point, Catelyn had enough. She held his gaze firmly, but all she could feel was herself struggling in anger.
What did Cedrick mean, her bribing Ollie?
Also, it was none of his business to mind whose baby she had conceived!
“What are you trying to say?”
“I underestimated you. You knew it was useless to approach me, so you wanted to get Ollie to accept you and then use him to make me accept you, too. You wanted to be his stepmother, to leap your way up the societal hierarchy, didn’t you?”
The veins on Catelyn’s forehead throbbed at Cedrick’s comment.
This man must have lost his mind!
Catelyn could feel her wrath rising steadily. “If you truly think that I had intentionally gotten close to Ollie, feel free to fire me. You can take your son back to your place, and we’ll never meet again!”
Cedrick watched as Catelyn raised her voice at his face, and a theory crossed his mind.
She was right; he was at the perfect liberty to fire her. However, how would Ollie react to it? Catelyn must have thought about this, and that was why she was so haughty to suggest it!
After all, the deal had quite a substantial value. She had completed the preliminary work too and was only waiting for execution to complete and, subsequently, arrange the payment.
He knew in his guts that she was in it for the money, or at least had been driven by the thought of it once.
