Kate was shocked by how bold Ruth was being. She looked at Ruth with anger and disbelief, clenching her fists, and said sarcastically, “Imagine if Holly could see how much she did for you, and here you are, acting like she meant nothing, even after she’s gone.” 

“Do you think she’d be mad enough to return and have it out with you? 

Ruth looked slightly scared but got her act together quickly and said, “We weren’t even that close; quit making stuff up!” 

Seeing that Ruth wasn’t going to budge, Eric looked even more unimpressed. He took Kate’s hand, trying to calm her down, and said in a chill way, “Let’s not even bother talking to her.” 

Kate took a deep breath, trying to cool off, and said with a sharp tone, “Well, you’re going to have to face the music. I’d save any excuses for the cops.” 

Right after Kate said that, the police showed up to look into things and took Ruth with them. 

Despite Ruth’s insistence that she was innocent, the police still took her in for questioning. Kate and Eric had to go along and give their accounts, too. 

After some questioning, Kate and Eric were free to leave the station. Kate seemed pretty down, clenching her fists tight as they walked out.
