Chapter 131
“I…” I looked over at Cole and when I was sure he was not looking at us, I spoke. “I was with Kaiden.”
Lyra’s eyes widened. I could tell she was about to yell and tell me off. “You WHAT?” I reached out to cover her mouth but I didn’t do it in time. I sighed and glanced at Cole again. He was looking at us and when Lyra looked at him, he looked away.
“What the hell do you mean, Freda? F**g Kaiden? The one we both hate? What were you doing? What were you thinking? He’s married! To your sister for that f**g matter!” She ranted. I could not stop her in between. “I know… Goddess, Lyra, I know,” I groaned.
“Nothing happened. I swear to you, nothing happened. He was at the school when I got there to get my car. I was drunk. The right thing anyone would do, especially as the Alpha, would be to stop me from driving, and drive me if they can,” I said and sighed. “That’s what he did. Nothing happened. I was drunk, not stupid. I can’t do anything with him. We’ve discussed that,” I told her, slightly disappointed that she would think of me in that
manner.
“I know you wouldn’t do that… I just…” She sighed. “What about Cole?” She asked and we both looked at him. “I…” I hesitated and she looked at me with a sad expression. I looked at the Moor. “I’lHeave you to it,” she said and walked away without a word. It was obvious that she was not happy with me.
I watched her walk through the back door before I took a deep

breath and turned towards Cole. He was watching me.
‘Do you feel the fire you feel with our mate?’ Gia asked and more than ever, I wished I could strangle the wolf and toss her out of my head. She was never useful.
‘It is an honest question, Freda. I want you to make your decision based on that,’ she said and I was left stunned. This was the first time since I rejected Kaiden and left the pack that she said something reasonable and helpful to me.
I was not sure how that made me feel.
I walked towards him and once I was standing in front of him, three feet apart, he gave me a small smile. “Hey,” he said and I M**d my lip before giving him a weak smile when speaking.
“Hey.”
We both went silent for a minute.
“About yesterday–”

We both spoke at the same time. “Go first,” he said and I shook my head quickly. “No, you go first” I said and he nodded slowly. “Yesterday was fun,” he said and smiled a bit. “It was,” I swallowed.
“You left,” he said. He probably did not mean for it to be, but it was in a subtle accusatory tone. “It was late and I was drunk and tired,” I said in a whisper. I could already sense where this was going and I was not sure I liked it.
“Yeah, you didn’t tell me before you left and then disappeared

altogether,” he said and I pressed my lips together. If he knew where I had gone and who I had been with, he probably would have been more upset than this.

“I’m sorry,” I said, forcing back the tears that threatened to fill my eyes. “Why?” He asked. I took a deep breath to calm myself. “I’m sorry for being a broken person. I’m not good enough for you,” I said and he shook his head, giving me a kind smile.
“Don’t say that…” He said. “I’m the one that’s not good for you. I’m not the person you need. Not now, not ever,” he said and tears filled my eyes despite my efforts to stop them. He was trying to end things without them even starting.
“I…” He said and paused. “I’m not trying to make you feel bad or anything. After you left the bar and I realized you had left, I sobered up immediately. I looked everywhere around the bar for you and I couldn’t find you. I knew you were walking, and you were drunk, and it just wasn’t safe,” he said.
Where was he going with this?
“I drove back to the school because guessed that you would be going back to your car. I was waiting and that’s when you got there. Kaiden was there too. Waiting at your car. He looked like s** and he lit up the moment you arrived. I wanted to come get you away from him after all you had told me, but I saw it. He is what you need,” he said and looked at me with tears in his eyes.
“I tried, Freda. I tried to be there. I tried to be everything you need. You don’t know me and in all honesty, I don’t really know you. I was trying to. I just realized that I’m not what you need. Kaiden is. You might not accept it now, but that’s fine. I can’t compete with him, Freeds,” he said shaking his head and looking away.

By this time, I was sobbing with embarrassment, shame, and agony. He had seen me leave ugh Kaiden and I had been missing the whole night up till now. That was horrible.
“I’m sorry Cole. I’m so sorry,” I said and he laughed through his tears, hugging me. “Don’t be sorry. Don’t be.” He said and kissed my forehead.
“I have to go now. Otherwise, I won’t be able to make myself leave after this,” he said after letting me go. “Say bye to Lyra and Francisco for me. I’ll see you guys again when I’m over this,” he said and walked away, leaving me a horrible sobbing mess.
