For me? Mr. Gorman, I dont get what you mean,” Mayra said, puzzled. 

Shane kept his eyes on the road, and his tone was calm when he replied, “Ms. Sadler, you don’t have to understand right now. You’re still young. Just focus on what you need to do. Mr. Anderson will take care of everything else for you.” 

Mayra couldn’t quite grasp Shane’s implications. She decided not to dwell on it as it seemed irrelevant to her. 

Back at the Barlow mansion, she dragged the sack to the seldom–used garage in the backyard, 

Julia had already prepared dinner for her. She asked, “Ms. Sadler, what were those things? You can’t just bring random things into the mansion. They might not be clean,” 

Mayra replied, “They’re just cardboard boxes and plastic bottles I collected. From now on, put anything recyclable in the garage, and I’ll sell them.” 

Julia was concerned. “Ms. Sandler, do you understand what you’re doing? I might have to inform Madam Sonia so that you can learn proper etiquette. Your status now 

Frustrated that she couldn’t even eat in peace, Mayra lost her appetite and grabbed her backpack before heading upstairs to her room. 

After ensuring no one was following her, she locked her room and quickly called Gordon. 

Gordon was discussing the upcoming competition with his team when his phone buzzed. After pausing the discussion, he stepped out to take the call. 

Mayra leaned against the balcony, her hair fluttering in the breeze. The golden light of sunset cast a glow on her youthful face. “Gordon, are you home yet?” 

“No, I’m still at school to discuss with my advisor about the competition. What are you up to?” 

“I’m thinking about you, of course! Have you eaten yet? Gordon, how’s your mom doing?” 

Gordon looked out over the sunset–lit schoolyard, his voice steady. “She’s gone to Candor City for treatment. A charitable organization is coveri 

and the rest is being taken care of by a fund from the University of Belchester.” 

Was this Anderson’s doing? As usual, his actions were so subtle that Gordon wolatot even reahre someone else was helping him.
