Later that night, Cross Group's cancer research team moved into the White House and began working with the royal physicians to devise a treatment plan.
As Garrett's condition was considered top secret, they hadn't revealed it to the public.
Even so, word about it had spread around the White House like wildfire.
Kidney cancer was no mild illness, and Garrett would have to go through a long recovery period if his treatment were to be successful. It would leave him so lethargic that he wouldn't be able to focus on his work at all.
Although nobody had brought it up, everyone knew that someone had to take over his position as president.
With that thought in the back of their minds, all sorts of crazy ideas began to surface.
Quite a lot of them wanted to become the next president.
Those that weren't qualified for the position, on the other hand, were busy choosing someone to support. For the latter, picking the presidential candidate to support was like an investment of some sort.
They believed that they would be able to enjoy a life of luxury if the person they supported became the president.
Although there were quite a handful of people who wanted to become the next president, two in particular were the most popular choices among the others.
The first candidate was Zion, the cabinet secretary.
The second one was Nathan, the Chief Military Governor.
In order to curry favor with the two of them, many have paid them visits throughout the next few days.
Unlike Zion, who welcomed his visitors warmly, Nathan preferred to keep a low profile and even seemed a little disgusted by the attention he received.
Fang, the commander-in-chief of the North Army, along with Destroyer and Heptakill, happened to be visiting Brimmopolis to report to Nathan that day.
Fang, Destroyer, and Heptakill were all elite soldiers that Nathan had personally brought up.
Among the three, Fang was the most capable and could even handle difficult situations all on his own.
As such, he was the one that Nathan felt the most confident in.
“Looks like the three of them are here to see me. Have them meet me in the study room,” Nathan said with a smile when he heard about their arrival.
“Yes, sir!” Colin replied.
