Salute To The General (Nathan Cross) novel Chapter 2681

In the afternoon, Garrett's funeral was held as scheduled.

Leaders from all walks of life showed up at the venue to attend the memorial service.

After the memorial service, Garrett’s body was transported to be cremated. Paisley and her family returned to their hometown in the West with his ashes afterward.

A country could not be left unattended, and it would need a leader.

The next day, Nathan was elected as the acting president.

The actual election for the next president will be held a month later.

However, judging from the current situation, no one could compete with Nathan. Nathan was almost certain to be elected as the next president.

The first thing Nathan did after he served as the acting president was reorganise the Cabinet.

The cabinet secretary was a very important position.

Nathan had even visited Hansel to invite him to take the position of the cabinet secretary.

However, Hansel turned him down.

Hansel suggested for Nathan to clear Zion's name.

After all, what Zion had committed was just a misdemeanor, and Erwin had treated Zion unfairly because Erwin held a grudge against Zion.

Nathan restored Zion's position and gave him a chance to redeem himself. He even appointed Zion to continue to serve as the cabinet secretary.

Nathan had never wanted to become the president in the first place. However, the turns of events made it difficult for him to resist his fate. In the end, he was directed by the hands of fate to the throne.

He would rather command soldiers to fight and protect his country if he had a choice.

Zion was well aware of Nathan's sentiments. Hence, he said sternly, “President Cross, our country is surrounded by powerful enemies. The Eight-Nation Alliance led by Ariarica has been eyeing us all along, scheming to take us down. Then, recently, we had to deal with the trouble caused by Erwin and Will. Our country is in a very precarious situation at the moment. I don't think anyone apart from you is suitable to be the president. No one is able to handle the problem except you. So, please don't hesitate any longer. You must have the determination to bring the Dragon of the East back to the top of the world by breaking through the siege and eliminating all obstacles.”

Nathan was stunned by Zion's words.

He looked at Zion and met the latter's eyes that were filled with determination and sincerity.

Nathan nodded gently and said, “I used to be afraid that I wouldn't do a good job and that the burden would be too heavy for me. That's why I never really wanted to run for president. However, after hearing what you said, I now understand that the situation is dire. I shall bite the bullet and work hard for the country's sake while I'm still useful to the country. Hopefully, I can live up to everyone's expectations.”

“I believe in you.” Zion smiled.
