Leaving the campsite, the surroundings were pitch black. It was so dark that one couldn't see their own hand before them. Hepburn also had to put on a pair of night vision goggles to see clearly. However, Nathan and Sevan, these top-level humans, had senses far beyond ordinary people. They didn't need night vision goggles and could move freely in the dark.
Even so, if this continued on for a long time, their bodies would undoubtedly undergo changes. Right then, Colin was already complaining, “It's been so many days since we've seen the sun. I wonder when this damned Dark Canopy will fall and when the Eternal Darkness will finally end?”
Patiently, Nathan said, “This is not something we can control. Let's just focus on doing what we need to do, and win against the vampires first. We can discuss everything else later.”
Hepburn chimed in, “Actually, there's no need for everyone to worry too much. Ever since the vampires created the Dark Canopy and brought about the Eternal Darkness, our Pope and the Council of Elders have been poring over ancient texts and researching information. The conclusion they reached was that the Dark Canopy won't last very long. It'll probably persist for around twenty days to a month. Pope Eugene even boldly speculated that once this retrograde period ends, the dark veil would also be lifted.
Nathan gave her a small smile and said, “This might be the best news I've received recently.” Colin joked,
“There's still half a month left until the end of the retrograde. It seems we'll have to suffer in the darkness for a while longer.”
Despite that, Sevan said, “What I'm afraid of is that the Pope's prediction might be inaccurate. Even more so that after the Dark Canopy falls, the vampires might create a new Dark Canopy. If that happens, the Earth will truly be plunged into an Eternal Darkness.”
As soon as these words were spoken, everyone fell silent. It was not impossible for Sevan worries to become true. Colin was just about to speak when Nathan, who was walking in the front, suddenly furrowed his brow and kicked a stone on the ground, sending it flying. The stone whizzed through the air like a bullet, shooting into the distant grass with a rustle. There was a loud smack. At the same time, a piercing scream rang out.
