Savage Mates novel Chapter 8

Travis

I watched Tillie almost run to the bathroom. I wanted to jump over the bar and chase her, follow her into the bathroom, and click the lock behind me so that we were alone. Shove her against the door and see just how sweet she tasted.

My mouth watered at the thought and my beast was beneath my skin, urging me on. It would be so easy to follow her.

“Stop, you’ll scare my mate away.” Ryan growled at me.

“Funny, I was thinking about following my mate.” í tilted my head to look at him, letting my wolf come to the surface. I wasn’t used to being challenged by anyone in our pack. I was our alpha’s beta. His second in command. My vision grew sharper and I knew that my eyes had gone black. I could feel the sharp points of my teeth around my tongue. It was hard to control myself when all I could think about was going in there and claiming what was mina

“Tillie can’t be your mate.” Ryan said and I looked over at him.

“She is. I knew it when I locked eyes with her. Her touch feels… Fuck, it feels fucking amazing.” I said, looking down at the bar top, thinking about how soft her skin had felt when I had brushed my fingers against hers. I wanted to see if the rest of her skin was just as soft. To see how her lips would feel pressed against mine, that sweet candy like scent of hers filling my senses, making me feel high.

I had a feeling that Tillie was about to become my newest addiction and I couldn’t wait to make her fall for me just as hard. A part of me wanted to drag her up to my office, but I knew that I couldn’t. She wasn’t ready for that, I didn’t even know if she knew about shifters. Sure, she had come reeking of one but that didn’t mean anything. She wasn’t claimed

“She does.” Ryan said, pulling me out of my thoughts about my mate. “But she’s human.”

“Think she knows about us?” I asked, dragging my hand through my hair to tug at the ends.

“No, I thought she might because her best friend is a wolf.” Ryan lifted his beer and took a long pull from the bottle before he sat it down on to the polished bar top. “When I told her she was my mate, she didn’t understand what I was talking about.”

“Damn,” I said, biting my lower lip. That meant I was going to need to take things slower with her. Fuck, that wasn’t going to be easy. I was never very good at taking things slow.

I studied him. We weren’t exactly friends, but I knew him well enough for being part of my pack. He smelled like home, like woods and family. I couldn’t take his mate from him, no matter how much everything in me was screaming at me to do so. I wanted to start the hunt now so that I could claim my prize.

“We could share.” I said, trying not to worry about how my wolf would feel about sharing a mate. It wasn’t unheard of, at least, not with a human. Other preternatural creatures often took on more than one mate for the sake of the pack.
