“Mom.”
Elisa rolled down her car window and said to them, “Alice might be going into labor. She mentioned having some abdominal pain. We need to get her to the hospital quickly.”
Audrey asked, “Who are you taking to the hospital?”
“Alice, of course. She’s about to give birth.”
Darrell asked, “Where is she?”
Elisa turned her head and did not see Alice in the back seat, only the maternity bag.
She was stunned for a moment.
Realizing the situation, she slapped her thigh and said to Remy, “Remy, turn around now. Alice is still at home.”
Remy was speechless.
Audrey burst into laughter.
She would have expected such a blunder from her son, not her daughter.
Elisa blushed and said apologetically, “Alice asked me to take some things to the hospital, so I grabbed them and rushed out, thinking she had already left…”
Remy laughed as he turned the car around, “Elisa, are you kidding me? You got me all worked up, and I followed you hastily without even thinking about the situation.”
After turning the car around, he stopped and waited for Elisa’s parents to get in before heading back together.
Fortunately, they had not gone far, or else they might have been shocked to find out that Alice was not in the car when they arrived at the hospital.
Ten minutes later.
Seeing that Alice was leisurely having breakfast, Elisa thought that her sister-in-law’s pain had subsided.
“It still hurts, sometimes it’s not very noticeable, and sometimes the pain is quite intense. I guess it’s time to give birth, but I don’t know how many days of pain I have to endure before the delivery. Mom said I should eat well to have the strength to give birth, so I’m having my breakfast first.”
Alice was no longer nervous after a laugh.
Audrey said, “It seems like it’s almost time for labor. We’ll go to the hospital once you have taken a short rest after your breakfast. If your belly isn’t hurting too much, then it's not happening anytime soon. There's no need to be overly anxious. Let's first check if you have all the things you need to take with you.”
“I've got everything prepared for both me and the baby—bottles, formula, and everything else. Everything is ready, so we're just waiting for this pregnant lady to go to the hospital and give birth.”
Alice looked at Elisa again and smiled.
Being nervous showed that Elisa cared a lot about her sister-in-law.
Both of them were close to each other. Ever since Alice got married into the Stone family, she treated Elisa like her own sister. While others view Elisa as the troublesome heiress, Elisa always took care of Alice and never once mistreated her.
