After a moment of thought, Zoey said, “You guys do have a point, but when Julian comes back, I still think you’d better ask to be sure and to ease my worries. Also, Julian might like Quinn and the two are a good match, but Julian is the heir of a rich family and there is still a gap between our family and theirs.

“Who knows if his parents can accept her? Once your dad’s back, I’ll talk to him. Will, you should make a trip to Wiltspoon with him and see if you can find anything about Julian’s parents and their characters.”

Will nodded. “I can go by myself. I’ll book the flight tickets tonight and head to Wiltspoon first thing tomorrow morning.”

“Go with your dad. You’re still young and still lack a keen eye for people. Your dad’s old enough and has decades of experience in the industry. His eye for people is still pretty good and it’s his daughter’s marriage at stake. He should help his daughter find out if her future in-laws are alright and if they’re dependable.”

Zoey would have gone to Wiltspoon herself if she were not afraid she would arouse Julian’s suspicion.

Mark said, “I don’t think Julian’s parents would look down on Quinn. Just think about how old Julian is—if we rounded up his age, he’d be a forty-year-old middle-aged man. Quinn’s only twenty-four—not even twenty-five yet. She’s so young. If anyone’s looking down on anybody, it should be us for Julian’s age.

“His parents are probably crazy anxious about him. Now that he’s finally found someone he likes, why would they look down on her? They probably can’t wait to send us a formal proposal.

“And so what if they’re rich? Are we very poor? We might not be able to call ourselves billionaires, but if we add all our assets together, we still have quite a lot. And haven’t you and Dad prepared properties, shops, and other assets for Quinn? She’s already much better off than tons of people out there.

“Of course, if the Buchams do dare to look down on our Quinn, they can’t blame us if we separate the lovebirds. No, wait. Quinn hasn’t even accepted Julian’s confession yet. It won’t be any skin off Quinn’s back if they just keep their distance from each other after this.

“Julian will be the one who’s sad instead.”
