“Alright. I’ll head to the hospital in a bit. You should head home and rest.”
Caroline did not refuse and instead agreed to go to the hospital to take care of her father.
Belinda was silent for a moment before she said, “You can head back after spending just an hour or so with him. There’s no need for you to take care of him personally. He’s not fond of you even though you’re his biological daughter.”
At first, she had not felt anything for Caroline either, but Caroline was, after all, the baby she had borne herself. Blood was thicker than water and feelings could quickly be nurtured.
However, it was not the same for Hunter.
To him, as long as he had not raised her and doted on her, he did not feel any closeness or fondness for her.
All because she was not a Clark.
Their three sons had taken after his surname. Therefore, they were considered grandchildren of the Clark family.
That was why Hunter was unable to truly accept Caroline as his daughter after her return.
Belinda knew this better than anyone else.
Now that Hunter was bedridden and needed care, he finally thought of Caroline and wanted to repair their relationship. Ha! It was too little, too late.
Caroline said, “No matter how he treats me, he’s still my father. Maybe we’re just fated to have a strained relationship.”
She had lacked fatherly love ever since she was young. Her adoptive father was always cold and indifferent toward her, having known since the beginning that she was not biologically his, while her adoptive mother and brothers followed his lead.
When she was young, she was especially envious of her brothers for having their parents’ love. If there was anything delicious to eat or drink or anything fun happening, they would think of her brothers first. She would receive nothing.
She thought her parents just favored the boys more.
It turned out that she was not biologically theirs.
Belinda could not help but sigh at the thought that she had gained authority in the family through her ruthlessness and not garnered their genuine reverence. Perhaps she was indeed inferior to her sister, Tiara.
Even if Tiara had raised her, taught her many things, and needed her help to manage when her health was bad, she still could not hold a candle to her.
“It’s been resolved. The insurance company paid out a sum of money. We also gave a sum of money, and so did Liberty Hunt. She said the bodyguard only got into the accident because he was driving her car.”
The deceased bodyguard only had one younger brother who was still attending university. The compensation for his death had all gone to his brother. On the surface, it had been an accident and the young man did not know the truth, so he would not look into the matter further.
He only thought that his brother had died in a car accident and was very grateful that his brother’s boss had given him so much money.
Belinda did not say anything further.
The mother and daughter pair soon ended the call.
Hayden got the gist of what was going on when she heard their conversation and said to Caroline, “If you’re busy, you can go about your business first.”
