Chapter 129 He Finds Out About the Miscarriage (1)
Those words pierced through Nicholas’ heart like a sharp blade. If possible, he wished he had never said that. He dreamed even more that she had not heard him say that! However, he could not undo his
actions.
He walked over to Nancy and wrapped her in his arms, burying his face in her neck as he muttered in audible agony, “I’m sorry, Nancy. You were right. I regret it so much now. I don’t want a divorce at all. Can we not separate?”
His arms were wrapped so tightly around her that it felt like he wanted to merge her into his body and.
into his life.
If it were in the past, she would certainly cave to that plea. However, it was different now. Whenever she thought about how her baby was gone, it felt like someone had stabbed her in the heart.
She was in too much pain-so much that she could not even forgive herself. So, why should she forgive him?
“I’m sorry!” She could not stop the tears from streaming down her cheeks. After all that she had gone through, she had thought her heart was tough and resistant to all attacks, cultivating an iron heart. To her dismay, she still felt pain. It ached her.
She had to admit that she still loved him, but there was too much in the world that was unbearable. She could not get over her baby’s death. One look at Nicholas directly reminded her of the car crash and the blood streaming out of her lower region.
If only… If only he could get to me earlier…
She dared not follow that train of thought any further because that would only lead to more blame and hatred toward him.
“I’m sorry, dear. I was wrong. Give me one more chance, please. I swear I won’t disappoint you again. I will cherish you.” He promised as he hugged her.
It was only at that moment that he realized just how much he feared losing her. If an apology could make her stay, he would repeat it thousands of times.
She wiped her tears away and turned around to look at him. “I’ve given you multiple chances. Time and time again, you abandoned me for Madelline. Do you know how much that hurts? I’m just an ordinary human; I’m made of flesh and blood, too. Have you ever thought of how much pain and sorrow I felt every time you abandoned me?”
“I know you want to divorce me over what happened with Madelline. I’ve already sent her to another country. I promise I won’t contact her again. Please, can we not get divorced?”
She suddenly chuckled when she heard that, shaking her head as a tragic smile spread across her lips. “Do you think that’s it? Because of her? How can it only be because of her?”
“What else, then?’ he frantically asked.
She reached down and placed her hands on her abdomen as her eyes shone with a gende light. “Did

you know? A cute and tiny life was growing in here. So tiny and weak, yet the heartbeat was so strong. I even saw the baby in the scans. He danced and swam. He was adorable. Do you know just how much I loved him? I would sacrifice everything I have to protect him. Now, he’s gone… He’s gone! He left me! He doesn’t want me anymore!”
At the end of her speech, Nancy sobbed so hard that her voice trembled uncontrollably. She bent over and knelt on the ground as she hugged herself with her head buried in her knees. It felt like that was the only way to make the pain hurt less.
Nicholas was petrified, not daring to blink as he froze like a statue. He even thought he was dreaming. A baby? She actually had a baby. A baby that left us… She had not been lying. She was pregnant with a baby!
And what did I do? I thought of her as a manipulative liar. Oh, Nicholas Sallow, you’re a joke-a big fat joke. You’ve had the best thing in the world, yet you decide to throw it all away.
Nancy was overwhelmed by tears as her entire body shook.
Sometime during this time, Nicholas had walked over to her side. He felt like a zombie as he stiffly knelt and hugged her. “I’m sorry. I know you don’t want to hear it now, but I…” He choked. “I didn’t know you were pregnant with my baby. Why didn’t you tell me, Nancy?”
Tell you? She looked up and stared at him through her tears. “I wanted to tell you, of course. You were the baby’s father. I wanted you to be as happy and eager as I am for the baby’s birth, but….”.
When she recalled the cruel words he had sent her way, agony overwhelmed her once more. “You told me you wanted a divorce early on. When I asked you if anything would change if we had a baby, you said it wouldn’t! Not for a minute! You insisted on a divorce so that you could marry Madelline. So, tell me-how was I supposed to break the news? You said the baby would be trouble and cursed. Well, as you wished, that trouble is gone now. Aren’t you happy?” She had not meant to lash out at him, but she would hear his cruel words whenever she closed her eyes. The pain was unbearable then.
