She Outshines Them All (Athena and Matthew) novel Chapter 212

Chapter 212
Matthew revealed a cold and mocking look at the mention of Nicolas. He ran his fingers through his hair, covering his face with his forearm in the process. It was as if he did not want Athena to see his devilish expression.
Instead of answering Athena’s question directly, he asked, “Miss Donovan, in your opinion, what would make my mom leave me at that time and run to the roof alone?”
Athena put herself in Maggie’s shoes. After a moment of contemplation, she said, “I think the most likely possibility is that Maggie found out that Nicolas was having a rendezvous with another woman on the roof at that time. That woman might be someone Maggie cared deeply about, such as her enemy, her friend or her trusted aide. The news caught her by surprise, so she had to confirm it with her own eyes.
“Your speculation is reasonable” Matthew chuckled sinisterly and said. “Lucy and I thought so too. We spent a lot of time investigating Nicolas’s whereabouts at the time of the incident. Lacy even fell out with Nicolas by asking him directly what he was doing at that time. Nicolas refused to tell us at first, but he finally confessed. He was indeed having a tryst with another woman, but not on the roof. They were in the bathroom
Matthew continued, “After checking through the surveillance camera footage, we noticed a petite mait entering the bathroom on the second floor before the lights went out in the hall Nicolas entered the bathroom after the lights went out. That petite man was, indeed, a woman dressed up as a man.”
Athena was speechless.
She was appalled by Nicolas’s shamelessness.
She thought, ‘No wonder Matthew only addresses Nicolas by his name.
Athena asked, “Other than the passage to the roof, is there any other way someone could have used to bypass the surveillance cameras and sneakily get to the root?
“Yes.” Matthew explained. “The main building of the Graham family residence is divided into three floors. The first floor is 13 feet tall while the second and third floors are 11.5 feet tall. An agile person can easily climb to the top of the building from the balconies on the second and third floors.
“There are indeed some blind spots that the surveillance cameras can’t capture on the second and third floors. In addition, if someone had taken advantage of the late night or rain to climb up from the balconies to the roof in advance, the surveillance cameras wouldn’t have been able to capture them.
Tve investigated everyone who had a motive to murder Maggie. They were all in the hall at the time of the murder Of course, I can’t rule out the possibility that someone I don’t know might have a motive to murder Maggie.”
Athena asked some more questions in detail
Basically, Matthew had thought of everything she could think of, and he had investigated all the clues carefully,
Athena did not press further. She lowered her head and drank her coffee silently. Her mind was working at high speed, combing through the clues and identifying all commonalities and anomalies.
Matthew didn’t say anything either. He just drank silently.
After more than 10 minutes, Matthew saw Athena finish her cup of coffee and put it on the table. He then asked, “Miss Donovan, have you come to a conclusion?”
Athena stared at him and said, “In my opinion, there’s a high chance that a few perpetrators joined hands to murder Maggie
Matthew was not surprised by her answer. He said. “Go ahead and tell me your speculation”

Athena explained. “From the clues you told me, it’s very likely that the lovers of Nicolas worked together to plan this. That night, they sneaked into your birthday party together with the goal of approaching Maggie. One after another, they flaunted their relationship with Nicolas to her, provoked her again and again, and induced her to drink non-stop.
“Despite being sad and angry, the last thing Maggie wanted was to get into a conflict with them during your birthday party. Therefore, she endured the suffering. After the lights went out in the hall, someone deliberately created chaos to delay turning on the lights.
“During this process, Nicolas left the hall. Maggie might have received the news in advance and thought that he went to the roof to meet another woman. So, she also left the hall and went to check out the roof.
“I
n’t know exactly what’s on the roof, but she was hired to the edge of the building. Right then, she suffered a huge shock fell off the roof.
Athena concluded, “If it’s a group crime, there must be a mastermind behind it.”
While Athena was narrating. Matthew had his eyes closed. He slowly turned the glass in his hand while listening to her quietly.
He opened his eyes when Athena finished speaking. His eyes glistened. He commented, “I think so too”
He continued, “I met up with Nicolas’s lovers one by one and forced the truth out of them. They all said they’d received an anonymous text telling them to goad Maggie and get her to drink more so she could make a fool of herself at the party.
“One of the women received a text telling her to whisper to Maggie that Nicolas would be heading to use roof after lights out in the lobby. He would be meeting Maggie’s best friend, who was a married woman, on the roof.
“All the women claimed that they never intended to kill Maggie. They did not expect things to go out of hand. I’ve tried many ways, but I still can’t find the mastermind”
Athena knew how hard it must have been for Matthew to pinpoint the mastermind.
The mastermind must have used a temporary phone number to text the women to prevent people from tracking their messages. It would be insanely hard to track who had bought a temporary phone number from more than a decade ago.
The text messages were practically a dead-end clue.
Matthew said, “Up until now, I still can’t determine who the mastermind is. He chuckled softly. His smile was sinister. He asked, “Miss Donovan, what would you do if you were me?”
Ordinary people might find this hypothetical question challenging.
However, geniuses like Athena had no problem answering this question.
Athena calmly said, “If I were you, I would treat all the suspects as murderers since I can’t pinpoint the mastermind.”
She raised her hand and made a throat-slitting gesture. Her gaze did not waver at all as she continued, “Id kill them all off
Matthew looked at her with crazy eyes. He exclaimed joyfully, “Miss Donovan, your answer makes me very happy.”
He held Athena’s hand and raised it to his lips. He lowered his head and kissed it gently. Then, he placed her hand on his Lace and closed his eyes, as if seeking her warmth and comfort
He muttered, “That’s what I’ve been doing for years. I won’t let anyone who is suspicious escape me.”
Athena felt her heart skip a beat.
Matthew was indeed a little crazy; he was even borderline lunatic. However, Athena was neither scared of him nor hated him.
