Chapter 253
Two cars were outside the entrance of the main building. One was Athena’s van, and the other was Matthew’s Miracle 2.0.
Matthew politely asked Athena. “Dr. Annie. if you don’t mind, how about taking my car back?”
Athena nodded. “Okay”
She walked to Matthew’s car door and was about to get into the car when she heard an aged and kind voice coming from the side. “Mr. Graham, please hold on.”
Athena turned around and saw an old lady with a large food box walking out of a small door at the side of the main building.
When Matthew saw the old lady, his indifferent face instantly softened. He quickly walked over and said respectfully. “Adele, why are you here?”
Adele stopped before Matthew and said kindly, “I knew you would return today, so I made your favorite peach pie. I got up early in the morning and made these pies. Take them with you and enjoy them.”
Matthew took the food box from Adele’s arms and said with a rare warmth, “Thanks. I’m happy that I can taste the pies you made for me.
“But I want you to have more rest. It breaks my heart to see you tire yourself out.”
Adele looked at Matthew as if she was looking at her child. That gentle and loving feeling was genuine. “Oh, I’m not so old that I can’t make some pies. Please don’t make me give up the joy of making pies for you.”
Since Adele had said so, Matthew stopped persuading her. “Alright, I’ll finish the pies you made for me.”
While they were talking, Athena stood quietly at the side and secretly sized up Adele.
Adele’s thick gray hair was meticulously combed back and tied into a bun with a small, black hairpin.
Adele’s body had shrunk. She was less than 5.2 feet tall. Her figure was a little bloated. She wore a traditional black dress with exquisite embroidery and a pair of old yet polished black leather shoes. She looked old–fashioned and retro.
She wore no makeup and looked well cared for. Although the wrinkles on her face were obvious, her face was rosy. Her eyes were still clear, her back was straight, and her voice was not weak
In addition, she had an elegant bearing and spoke appropriately. She had the aura of a first–rate maid from a rich family.
According to Athena’s observation, Adele looked in her sixties, but her age should be around eighty, and she was respected in the Graham family:
Matthew did not stay long after taking Adele’s pies. After exchanging some pleasantries, he returned to the car and opened
the door for Athena.
After the car drove out of the gate of the Graham family, Matthew told Athena, “Adele is my mother’s nanny. When my mother was still a child, Adele had always been by my mother’s sile. She watched my mother grow up and followed my mother to the Graham family.
After my mother passed away, everyone around her left one after another. Only Adele stayed in the Graham family to attend to my mother’s room and the flowers and plants my mother planted when she was alive for all these years.
On my mother’s birthday, the anniversary of her death, and all kinds of holidays, Adele would visit my mother’s grave. “Adele told my sister and me that we must bury her by my mother’s side after she dies

Chapter 253
Athena was deep in thought, “I saw how Adele combed her hair bun and dressed herself. In addition, she has always been by your mother’s side and has never left the Graham family. Is she a nun?”
A mun back then committed herself to God and was determined to remain unmarried all her life. Once a woman became a nun, she had to abide by her commitment and never marry or have children. Otherwise, she might get punished. Being a nun was still a life choice for some women.
Matthew turned his head slightly and looked at Athena. “Yes, Adele is a nun.
“She’s from a poor family. When she was young, her family wanted her to marry a fool for money. Adele protested, so she went to the church for help and became a nun, swearing not to marry in her life.
“Because of this, she was chased away by her family. After many years, she became a maid in the Patterson family. Later, my mother chose her as a nanny.
“Adele has no family, friends, or children. My mother used to be her closest and most important one.”
Matthew paused slightly. “After my mother passed away, my sister wanted Adele to move out of the Graham family to live
with her.
“But Adele said she was old and used to living with my mother. Even though my mother was gone, the Graham family still had traces of my mother’s life. So she didn’t want to leave.”
After a silent moment, Athena said, “Adele was on your mother’s side. She’ll suffer if she stays in the Graham family, right?” Not to mention anything else, Farrah would never let Adele off easily.
“Farrah likes to make things difficult for Adele, Matthew said calmly. “However, my father respects Adele.
“Also, I’m still alive. Whoever dared to make things difficult for Adele, I would get rid of them. Even Farrah couldn’t protect

them.
“As time went by, the servants of the Graham family did not dare to take Farrah’s orders and make things difficult for Adele,
Athena nodded and stopped discussing Adele. She shifted the topic to Farrah. “Was it an accident that Farrah’s hands were crippled
“No.” Matthew said honestly, “I did it.”
Athena’s mouth widened in surprise, but she wasn’t too surprised.
Matthew’s tone was indifferent. He didn’t have any psychological burden about crippling Farrah’s arms. “Farrah was the woman who was pregnant for four months at my eighth birthday banquet and bragged to my mother about how Nicolas doted on her and how Nicolas despised my mother behind my mother’s back.
“She told my mother that when my mother was pregnant with me, she was with Nicolas every night and that she had secretly given birth to a beautiful daughter who looked like Nicolas, Nicolas doted on this daughter very much and named
her Loreen
“Farrah also said she had done an ultrasound and confirmed that she was pregnant with a boy. In Farrah’s words, Nicolas looked forward to this son and even promised to divorce my mother and marry her after giving birth to a son.
“My mother drank a lot after listening to her words. I saw from the surveillance footage that my mother was quietly wiping her tears in the corner. She couldn’t even walk steadily
