Chapter 183
In the past few days, Scarlett had been sleeping for much longer than she had been awake.
Even upon waking, she could only utter a few words before slipping back into a deep sleep.
Dev sat motionless in front of the hospital bed, his pale face covered in stubble and exhaustion evident in his expression.
Susan advised him to take a rest, but he was unwilling. Susan could not change his mind, so she left him alone.
Susan thought that when Scarlett woke up, she would likely want some liquid food, even if she couldn’t eat it. So, Susan prepared it for her.
She told Dey that she was going to get some porridge, then she left the ward and went downstairs.
Not long after she left, Scarlett woke up. Her limbs were swollen, making her unable to move.
She could guess that her face was also swollen, likely making her look ugly.
She felt that Dey was holding her hands very hard, which made her heart peaceful for a moment.
She swallowed her saliva and said in a hoarse voice. Liam… is the sun our?”
Dev nodded, but thought that she couldn’t perceive las gesture and quickly responded to her in a low voice, “It’s out…”
His red eyes peered out of the window, for the snow was falling heavily and not a single ray of sun was visible.
But in the past few days, when Scarlett woke up, the first thing she asked him was whether the sun was out.
Presumably, she wanted to see the sun, but it was not possible. She could only ask if the sun was shining
Scarlett, upon hearing that the sun was out, slowly turned her head. Through the glass window, her unfocused eyes seemed to catch a glimpse of a ray of sunlight, warming her heart.
“Liam, was it the same weather on the day you found me?”
“Yes, the azure sky and puffy clouds, luminous and radiant. I spied you reclining in the meadow with a gaze.”
At five years old, Liam was flying a kite outside the orphanage when he spotted her. Without hesitation, he brought her
back.
It was also from the moment he took her back that he was determined to devote his entire life to her…
Upon hearing Dev’s description, Scarlett couldn’t help but curl her lips into a faint smile.
In her dream, she saw a woman standing in the sun’s rays, extending her arm towards her as if to say, “Scarlett, Mom’s here to take you home.”
She thought it might be her mother, just as when she was born, her mom had likely placed her under the sunlight and left, reluctantly and helplessly.
Perhaps it wasn’t her mother; she just wanted one so badly that she dreamt of one coming to pick her up.
She had never experienced the love of a mother or father in her life.
Arriving and departing with nothing, she felt a tinge of regret.
Dev felt a thorn pierce his heart upon seeing her bitter smile, causing his entire body to ache.
He was in so much pain that he couldn’t help but embrace her tightly, not wanting to ever let go.
