Chapter 210
As soon as Lanny opened her eyes, she found herself in the hospital.
She moved the corner of her mouth that had been injured and, with difficulty, muttered, “Water…”
A slender, broad hand cradled the back of her head as it brought a glass of water to her lips.
Lowering her head, Lanny took a few sips of water to quench her thirst. Once her parched mouth was relieved, she raised her head and glanced at the person who had handed her the drink.
The moment Lanny’s gaze met the pair of deep, dark eyes, her face instantly paled and her pupils were tinged with a hint of
terror
“Are you that afraid of me?”
Yan put down the cup of water and, leaning back against the chair, crossed his legs as he sat next to the bed, looking at her playfully.
Lanny’s bright eyes gradually turned from fear to indifference. “Why are you here!”
The corners of Yan’s mouth curled up and he smiled. Tm here to see you, my girl…”
His tone was affectionate and allusive, but his eyes were full of irony. “To see how well you have been since leaving the Baber family…
He raised his finger and touched Lanny’s skin which had been injured by the belt. “See here, you’re doing so well that you’re even bleeding…”
Lanny had grown accustomed to being mocked, and though she remained composed on the outside, she inwardly recoiled
at his touch.
She quickly turned her head away to avoid his touch and said coldly. “You have seen it. Hurry up and leave. I need to rest.”
Yan’s expression suddenly sank, leaving it unknown whether her words had angered him or if it was because she had avoided touching him.
He grabbed Lanny’s chin and forced her to look straight at him. “Lanny, how dare you speak to me in such a tone…”
Lanny’s chin was injured. After he grabbed her, she instantly winced in agony. “Ouch!”
Lanny was stunned when she noticed that Yan’s hand had suddenly become lighter in strength.
In the past, he had been merciless to her due to her suffering. What happened today?
At first, she had no intention of glancing at Yan, yet she eventually raised her gaze and slowly gazed at him.
At such a close distance, Lanny’s eyes were calm, but Yan looked away a few seconds later.
Lanny suddenly comprehended something and felt a tinge of amusement in her heart. She uttered calmly, “Yan, I’m hurting. Could you release me?”
Lanny’s soft and tender tone, after they had been separated for ten years, made his heart tremble slightly for the first time.
Releasing her chin, he sat on the chair and pursed his lips, his gaze lingering on her wounded figure.
After a long time, he opened his lips slightly and inquired in a gentle tone, “How did you get hurt?”
Lanny gazed at the injury on her body and uttered, emotionlessly, “Wanda”
