Chapter 134
The Trojan horse they planted in Greer Group’s system was indeed being dismantled, with 60% already cracked.
Millie stroked her chin while watching the progress bar inching forward. In less than 20 minutes, it would be fully compromised.
She was surprised to learn that the person Winston had hired was skilled. They were actually capable of cracking her Trojan horse.
Employees stranded at the entrance of Greer Group had been cleared out. An urgent notice informed everyone of a half–day leave, and they would resume work in the afternoon.
The company’s internal group chat had erupted into chaos. Many personnel voiced their doubts about everything being resolved by the afternoon.
One employee wrote, “Our security system is so strong. How did anyone manage to breach it?”
Another replied, “I bet the boss offended someone!”
The entire building was without power, making it appear lifeless. However, a smiley face would appear on the screen whenever an employee swiped their ID. It was a blatant provocation, yet there was nothing they could do about it.
Right then, a user with a black profile picture appeared in the chat with the name G.
The person wrote, “Work will continue as usual this afternoon. Any questions?”
Upon seeing that message, everyone inhaled sharply and fell silent. The person was none other than Winston. Since he had spoken, no one had the guts to question him.
Meanwhile, in a hidden studio, Winston stood with his arms crossed. He frowned as he stared at the
screen filled with lines of code.
Then, he asked the young man typing away at the keyboard, “How soon until it’s resolved?”
“About 20 minutes,” the young man replied, hacking through one line of code after another.
While decrypting the codes, he asked Winston, “Mr. Greer, who did you offend? This Trojan horse doesn’t seem like something an average person would plant.”
Winston’s frown deepened upon hearing that. “What kind of person could do this then?”
“A professional hacker. Just look at these codes. Each layer is intertwined. If one decryption fails, we’re back to square one. Besides, this Trojan horse only gives us two chances to crack it.”
Winston’s expression darkened further. “What happens if we fail both times?”
The young man chuckled awkwardly before saying, “Then….. We’d have to find the hacker and beg
them to undo it.”
“So, if you don’t want to beg someone else, you’d better dismantle it soon.”
The young man managed to squeeze a smile in response. Of course, he didn’t want to beg someone else. He was a hacker, after all. It would be humiliating if a hacker couldn’t crack a Trojan horse and had to plead for help.
Winston observed the flood of messages pouring from the company’s executives on his phone. Fury welled up inside him, and he slammed his right hand on the leather chair.
Who on earth was behind this attack?
Just as Winston was about to leave, the young man exclaimed, “Mr. Greer, we have a problem!”
He turned, displeasure evident on his face. “What now?”
“The person has reinforced the firewall… I need to start cracking it all over again!‘ The young man wore a pained expression as he spoke.
⚫ Winston was at a loss for words, “How long will it take?”
1–I’m not sure,” the young man answered gravely
