Chapter 398
Gloría glanced at Winston and asked flatly, “So, you’ve decided to marry her?”
“Yes.”
Gloria raised an eyebrow. She crossed her arms as she sat on the couch, showing an imposing
presence.
“Fine, I won’t meddle further. Since both of you are willing to marry each other, then go ahead and make it happen,” Gloria said, her demeanor clearly showing that she was ready to wash her hands of the situation.
It was the first time she had ever backed down, leaving both Winston and Joanna astonished.
Gloria cast a quick look at Joanna and sighed. “She’s willing to go to any lengths just to marry you. You must marry her.”
However, she was certain that Joanna would stir up trouble frequently once Winston married her. It was infuriating to think that Winston would give up Millie just to pursue Joanna.
Gloria glared at Winston, her frustration growing as she thought about what her son had done. He was turning out to be a real disappointment!
“Mrs. Greer, do you really approve of me marrying Win?” Joanna asked, her eyes brimming with tears. of joy.
Gloria nodded. “Yes.”
“Mrs. Greer…” Joanna immediately sat up.
Gloria quickly waved her hand, saying, “Please, don’t move.”
Joanna’s health was delicate. She frequently fainted and needed hospitalization. Gloria worried that even a glance could make her a suspect if anything happened to Joanna.
Gloria then approached Winston. Wearing a somber expression, she stared at him and reminded him
in a low voice, “Win, I can’t control you forever. But I sincerely hope you’ve given careful thought to marrying her.”
Marrying Joanna was a decision Winston had contemplated deeply before making. He lowered his gaze, recalling the doctor’s words from that morning.
The doctor had said, “Ms. Lowell’s condition is quite severe. She’s at risk of self–harm at any moment. Her depression also comes with disturbing nightmares.
“She said she often dreams of falling into the sea, causing her to wake up in fear. It’s possible she also suffers from thalassophobia. This might be related to the traumatic experience from three years
ago when she was thrown into the sea.”
Winston had asked the doctor, “Can it be treated?”
At first, the doctor nodded. But in the next second, they shook their head. “It depends on the patient’s

mental strength.”
Winston snapped back to reality. A brief flash of emotion crossed his eyes as he gazed at Gloria.

Joanna had ruined her life just to save him. Hence, he couldn’t bring himself to pretend nothing had happened.
Winston nodded in response.
“You won’t regret this, will you?” Gloria asked, seeking confirmation.
“I won’t.” In actuality, Winston didn’t have a choice.
Gloria had to admit that there were many times when Winston seemed so unfamiliar to her. It was to the point that even she, as his mother, could hardly recognize him.
She couldn’t wrap her head around why he would go against everyone’s advice and insisted on doing things his own way.
Regardless, Gloria didn’t have the strength to argue with Winston anymore. As an adult, he had to take responsibility for his actions. No matter what happened in the future, even if he regretted it and begged forgiveness one day, she was determined not to sympathize with him.
