Yolanda spent a night at Nate’s condominium before heading home early the next morning.
When she went back, Sebastian was still fast asleep.
Therefore, Yolanda stole Sebastian’s silver needles while the old man was asleep.
Subsequently, she took out the bottle of medicine Nate gave her and smeared it on each silver needle evenly.
After waiting for all the medicinal liquid on the needles to dry, Yolanda placed the acupuncture kit back into Sebastian’s luggage.
She didn’t know what the medicine was for, and nor did she ask Nate. After all, the latter had promised that the medicine wasn’t life-threatening.
It was enough for her to know that the medicine was not deadly.
That Xavier guy is doomed. It’s Nate we’re talking about, after all. I don’t have many enemies, but I don’t mind going against the world for Nate. Xavier is nothing in my eyes.
That morning, when Winnie awoke, she was relieved to finally see a sleeping Xavier.
The man was no longer wide-awake but was instead sleeping soundly. Judging by his slow, even breathing, he seemed to be in deep slumber.
Although most of his memories had not recovered yet, Winnie was satisfied to see him finally get some shut-eye.
Recovery was a slow and long process, after all. Since acupuncture was effective, she believed he would recover as long as they continued the treatment.
With that in mind, Winnie was in a good mood. She left the room and went to make breakfast for the two of them.
Just as she was frying the eggs, she felt someone hugging her from behind.
She knew that it was Xavier. “Oh, you’re awake. Did you have a good sleep last night?”
“I slept great, but I didn’t get to see you when I woke up. How can you do this to me? Did I allow you to get out of bed?”
Upon hearing that, Winnie elbowed him. “I can’t believe you have the audacity to ask me this. How about I ask you why you’re awake when I haven’t allowed you to do so?” After saying that, she pried his arms off her and instructed, “I’ve finished frying the eggs. Since I’ve been busy the entire morning, I’m now going to freshen up and do my skincare. As for you, your job is to place all the food on the dining table and wait for me. Understand?”
Immediately, Xavier’s face darkened. “Are you asking me to do all of this?”
“What? Is it that difficult to do things for me?”
“No.”
“What’s the problem, then?”
“But I’m going to miss you.” Xavier did not allow Winnie to leave and hugged her again. “I don’t want you to leave my line of sight!”
Winnie was amused. “It’s just going to take a few minutes for me to freshen up. Why are you so clingy?”
“Am I?” Xavier furrowed his eyebrows, inching his handsome face toward Winnie. “Weren’t you more clingy when we first got married? You would want me to hug you when you’re in the restroom. I even had to feed you too. Well? Do you want me to feed you later?”
“All right. You win.” I must admit that I was a lot worse than him when I was acting dumb back then. In fact, he’s nothing compared to me!
Despite Xavier’s complaints, he obediently released Winnie and scooped a bowl of oatmeal. While doing so, he asked, “Do you want some sugar in it?”
“No need. I prepared some side dishes as well. I feel like eating something savory for breakfast today.” Winnie caressed the man’s hair smilingly as a reward.
I wonder if he would still remember the moments we share now when he recovers his memories—the needy, awkward, yet adorable moments of our daily lives.
After breakfast, Xavier wanted to bring Winnie to the company as usual.
However, Winnie rejected him as it had been days since she last visited Jacinta. Thus, she wanted to head to Aqua Moana to check on the old woman.
Right after visiting Jacinta, she still needed to head to Sebastian’s place to continue studying medicine.
Although Xavier was somewhat reluctant, he did not stop her.
I’m not sure if it’s my imagination or if the acupuncture is working its magic, but this fellow’s temper seems better as compared to a few days ago.
However, when Winnie arrived at Aqua Moana, she found out that Jacinta was not home.
To her dismay, Jacinta did not pick up any of her calls either.
Feeling anxious, Winnie quickly went outside and planned to get the management staff to check the surveillance cameras.
Just when she was out the door, Jacinta suddenly called her.
Winnie immediately picked up the phone. “Hello, Granny. I’m back at home. Why are you not at home? Where are you right now? What? You’re in the hospital? Do you feel unwell? Why did you go to the hospital? Oh. You’re there to visit a patient? Who is that person? I’ve never heard you mention this before. Hello? Granny, it seems like your signal is a bit weak. Could you go somewhere else to take the call? I can’t hear you.” As soon as Winnie finished her sentence, the call ended.
She was about to call Jacinta back when Josiah suddenly phoned her.
At once, she picked up the phone. “Is something the matter?”
Josiah could almost sense how anxious Winnie was. “Are you busy? It’s nothing much. I just want to inform you that I saw your grandmother in the hospital just now. She was here alone. Did you know that?”
Upon hearing that, Winnie was stunned. “I just knew about it too. Her phone’s signal was weak, so the call ended halfway. She said she was there to visit a patient, but I don’t know who exactly.”
“Oh. So that’s what happened. I was right, then. I saw her pushing a female patient into the restroom just now. I wanted to say hello, but I couldn’t as they had entered the ladies restroom.”
“What? Who’s the female patient? Do you know her?”
“I do know her. She’s Rachel Zimmerman. I think she’s staying in the hospital because she lost a lot of blood during her abortion due to her endometrium lining being quite thin.”
“Okay.” Winnie heaved a sigh of relief. “I’ll go and look for her right now. Her phone is still turned off. I think she accidentally clicked on the power-off button. When you see her later, please inform her to stay put and refrain from going anywhere else.”
“I got it. Don’t worry. I’ll definitely get the job done.”
After hanging up the phone, Winnie rushed to the hospital immediately.
When she arrived at Rachel’s ward, Jacinta was peeling an apple for Rachel.
Meanwhile, Rachel was peeling an orange. When she was done, she fed Jacinta a piece of orange. “Here. Eat some. It’s very sweet.”
“Oh, it’s okay, honey. I’m not too fond of sweet things because my teeth are too weak. You should eat them instead.”
When Winnie saw that, she stopped in her tracks outside the ward.
The scene was too familiar to her.
Many years ago, when she was still a dumb girl, her grandmother would always talk to her like that.
Whenever there was good food, Winnie would always be the first person who Jacinta thought of.
In fact, Winnie knew that Jacinta was lying whenever the latter said her teeth were weak and she couldn’t eat anything sweet.
