He didn’t comment any further since Xavier had declared the matter a secret.
Unknown to him, Xavier was messaging Louis.
He had sent the name of the restaurant Winnie had wanted to go to earlier to Louis with the intention of buying it over. Subsequently, he wanted them to perpetually reserve a private room for Winnie so that she could always dine there without having to queue.
When Josiah noticed that Xavier was occupied, he chatted with Winnie instead.
“Ms. Garland, what did you tell Greta in the end? I saw the serious look on her face back then. Is it a secret? Are you allowed to say?”
Shooting Josiah a look through the rearview mirror, Winnie couldn’t help but laugh. “There are no secrets between us.”
A wide grin emerged on Josiah’s face. It feels good to hear her say that! “I’m all ears.”
Winnie went on to satisfy his curiosity. “Thereafter, I brought up the matter about Mason with her. Since Mason has recently become my bodyguard, she asked if he was aware of my trip here.”
“That’s right.” The same question popped into Josiah’s head. “Hasn’t he been guarding you closely? Didn’t he come along this time?”
“He didn’t.” Winnie explained, “Officer Clark had it planned ahead of time. Before we came, he told us that the trip had to be kept a secret, and no one must be told about it.”
Josiah nodded. “In that case, what does Greta plan to do? Now that we have stopped investigating her abruptly, Mason will definitely become suspicious.”
“You’re right, but Greta says that she’ll contact Mason directly to resolve the matter. That said, she still needs some time, so we’ll have to keep it from him for the next few days.”
“Got it.” After giving it some thought, Josiah added, “You should replace your bodyguard soon then, as Mason might be leaving in the near future.”
Winnie grunted in acknowledgment. “I’ve already given the matter due consideration.”
After having lunch together, they went their separate ways.
As Garland Group was now run by a professional manager, there wasn’t much for Winnie to do.
When she left her office, Xavier was still at work. Hence, she decided to head straight to Fairchild Corporation.
Even though she arrived to find Xavier still in a meeting, she was in luck as the secretary informed her that he would be out in around ten minutes.
Nonetheless, Xavier was still just as busy upon emerging from the conference room, speaking on his phone the entire walk back to his office.
However, the sight of Winnie waiting for him inside caused him to swiftly end the call.
Unfortunately, he just had too much work. No sooner had he hung up than another call came in.
His first reaction was not to take it and pretend that he didn’t hear it at all, but in the end, he pressed the answer button when he saw the name on the caller ID.
After giving him a quick glance, Winnie didn’t disturb him. Instead, she gestured for him to continue his call.
Nevertheless, she could quickly tell that the person he was speaking to was none other than Wilhelm.
Hence, she walked to his side the moment he ended the call.
She asked curiously, “Do you talk to Wilhelm frequently?”
“Yes, mostly about work.” While speaking, Xavier put his phone on silent and chucked it aside.
Once he made sure that the office door was locked, he swept Winnie off her feet and carried her to the couch.
