Silly Bride novel (Winnie and Xavier) novel Chapter 382

Chapter 382
Indeed, he remembered her father, Walter Shasnow.

Walter was his longest-serving driver, and his death was not an accident.

At the time, when Xavier was leaving the Fairchild residence with Winnie, they were hit by a car arranged by Zyon.

Neither he nor Winnie suffered any severe injuries, but the driver in front sustained serious wounds.

Walter was almost at death’s door when he was rushed to the hospital. The emergency rescue efforts were in vain, as he succumbed to his injuries and passed away in his forties.

Xavier recalled how he had offered a million to the driver’s family and even supported his daughter’s college education. The young woman standing before him, Abigail, was the very same girl who had benefited from his sponsorship.

The Shasnow family might have received a million from him, but the money could never bring Walter to life again.

That was why Xavier still felt guilty about Walter and his family.

He glanced at Abigail and asked, “Why did you come here to work? Is it because you don’t have enough money?”

“No.” Abigail quickly shook her head. “I have enough money, but I’ve grown up and am now an adult, and it’s time for me to work and make ends meet with my own strength. I asked the butler to arrange a job for me. He even praised me for being diligent, Mr. Fairchild.”

Xavier merely hummed in response, as he was not interested in her life story. “You can go now. It’s getting late.”

“Okay. You too, Mr. Fairchild.”

Xavier said nothing after that. He turned around and walked back the way he came.

Abigail’s heart skipped a beat when he walked past her.

She had never thought being near Xavier would make her feel this way.

The tobacco smell on other guys would make her feel sick, but not Xavier. He had a distinct smell that perfectly matched his voice, his towering physique, and his stunning appearance.

Abigail stood there, staring at his back until he disappeared.

Once Xavier left, Abigail sat on the seat where Xavier had sat earlier and discovered the lighter he had accidentally left on the bench.

She quickly picked up the lighter and looked at it over and again.

Abigail sat alone on the bench for some time before returning to her room.

At Lagune Mansion, maids like Abigail would have to share a room with another maid, and her roommate was someone a few years her senior.

Upon noticing the radiance on her face, her roommate could not help but ask, “I thought you said you were going after a thief? Why do you look so happy? Did you find money or something?”

“I didn’t find any money, but I found a treasure.” Abigail presented the lighter as if it was a treasure to her roommate. “Look, isn’t this a treasure?”

Her roommate took the lighter from Abigail’s hand and studied it. Her eyes lit up. “This is truly a work of art! I think it’s branded, so it must be quite valuable. But you should locate the owner and return it to them.”

“I know who lost it,” Abigail responded with a smug look on her face.
