Chapter 197
“Who Knows?”
“I pray she doesn’t die. She has to regain consciousness. I can’t wait to see the misery on her face.”
“Me too!” While I didn’t know why Jolene suddenly had a miscarriage, that question was no longer important. I was just looking forward to seeing the expression on her face when she woke up.
Would she break down after discovering that the bargaining chip she’s held onto for all this time has turned to blood?
Justice would be served one day. I just didn’t think that the day of her retribution would come so soon and completely destroy
her.
As my mind wandered, the phone started to ring. It was the despicable Bycho Client again. Eric looked relaxed as he joked, “You must be in a good mood today.”
“Why you say that?”
“The threat is gone now. Anyone would be happy, wouldn’t they?” Was he referring to the subject with Jolene?
Displeased with how negligent he was in the way he spoke about my family matters, I asked in response, “How did you know?”
“I know a lot of things. Not only do I know about the miscarriage that President Boyer’s mistress had, but I also know that you went looking for a doctor for her, only to get scolded by her brother.”
I took a deep breath. How did Eric know all this in such detail? Without thinking about it too much, I had the feeling he must have followed me. “Don’t tell me you’re following me.”
“Following you? You are thinking too much. I just got to the hospital to get an X-ray of my bones to see if they healed when I happened to see you running around looking for a doctor. When I was done with my X-ray and checkup, someone yelled at you. That simple.”
I suddenly remembered the sneers I’d heard outside the OR earlier. Was Eric actually there at the time? If that was the case, I was very embarrassed.
Feeling awkward, I remained silent, then heard Eric ask, “Why aren’t you saying anything?”
“I have nothing to say, I snorted.
“I saw you were very good at screaming earlier. It must be nice to be in the spotlight. Does it look like you were put in a monkey show?”
“Why are you lecturing me?”
“Is this too much for you? I thought you were pretty good at holding back. You helped your husband’s mistress during her pregnancy and still cared for him with all your heart as you cared for his family members.” Eric let out a mocking laugh. “Lilian, seeing someone like you really baffles me.”
“Was that really necessary?” No one would take you for a mute if you didn’t say so.
“But I can’t keep it. Do you know what I hate the most? Women like you who lack self respect. You lose your moral compass over a man. How embarrassing!”
“Are you finished, President Walker?”
“Not yet. Since you’re so good at being patient and you love your husband so much, I think maybe you should let the mistress enter your family register. Wasn’t there an anecdote in ancient times about Emperor Shun and his two wives? Although you and the mistress are not biological sisters, I think you two get along very well. You two can share a husband like E Huang and Nu Ying did. Won’t that be a good story?”
