Chapter 230
“I’ve been waiting for you so we can go home together.” Carson examined my expression carefully. Realizing that I was angry, he thought that I had been scolded in the ward. “Honey, did your father scold you?”
“Didn’t I tell you to come back? Why are you still here? Also, why did you talk to Ms. Fant now? Are you trying to make sure my dad knows you were here?” I questioned furiously.
Doesn’t he want to meet my dad? I won’t let him succeed, because I want to tell him clearly that my father looks down on him, so stop trying to pull pranks.
“I-I just found Mrs. Fant, so I said hello to her,” explained Carson hastily.
The way he apologized made me feel repulsed. I must have been blind in the past to think he was a good-natured and tolerant man. Back then, I even felt sorry for him when my father treated him badly.
Now, he was playing the same trick on me again. However, I was no longer the naive woman of the time. Does he want me to sympathize with him? Keep dreaming!
“Just pretend you don’t know her if you see her again.” With that, I got into the car and started the engine.
Shortly after Carson and I returned home, Jolene returned as well. As we were all back in the house, Victoria started setting the plates on the table.
After dinner Jolene asked me out of the blue, “Lily, did you go to the Walker Group today for the bidding?”
“Yes. And you?”
“We wanted to participate in the bidding as well. Unfortunately, it was too late when we heard the news, so we missed the chance.”
“Isn’t this an open tender? Didn’t you get the news?”
“We are headquartered in Oceana City and we just opened a subsidiary in Riverdale. So we are still trying to gain a foothold here.”
“This is a shame.” I sighed intentionally. “This is a great Walker Group project. I am sure you are capable enough to get the project.”
“Thank you for your compliment. Maybe next time.” Jolene sighed. What she said bothered me. Next time? Did she find other opportunities?
While I was speculating, Carson’s phone suddenly beeped when there was a new message. Taking a look, he got up from his chair and went to his office.
After chatting with the others for a bit, I went to the office as well. As soon as I opened the door, Carson, who was sitting at the table, turned around in shock. Seeing me, he forced a smile. “Honey.”
Despite his quick disguise, I caught a glimpse of the agitation behind his gaze. Without trying to alert him, I sat down at my desk and turned on the computer.
Attempting to strike up a conversation, Carson queried, “Are you working?”
“Yes, I have to draw some design sketches.”
“Oh ok. I’ll take a walk outside then.” With that, he rose from his chair.
Your reaction is 100% unusual. Something must have happened by now. What could it be?
