Marylin Ye didn't expect Jamie Shen to come to find her in her rental house. On weekdays, when he wanted to see her or wanted to use her, he called her to ask her to go to his place.
Marylin had always thought that Jamie didn't even know where she lived, but how could he have found this place tonight?
Marylin got out of bed in a panic and hurried to the door to open it for Jamie.
Jamie's tall and gruesome figure stood in the doorway with one hand in his trouser pocket and the other on the door. He looked tired. Seeing Marylin in a cold shiver, he walked into the room with no expression on his face.
This was the first time Jamie showed up at Marylin's rental house. Closing the door, Marylin stood in extreme nervousness. She did not know how to deal with him there at the time.
Jamie found a place to sit with his head down. Then he lit a cigarette, asked her: "Why couldn’t you get through on the phone?"
Marylin's heart beat fast. How dare he come here in the middle of the night, accusing her of her phone being unable to get through?
"My phone was in arrears... I'll pay tomorrow". Marylin explained in a stutter.
Jamie stared at her pale face and said in a teasing tone: "Why are you so nervous? Do I scare you?"
"No." Marylin's voice lowered and moved away to pour him a cup of water.
Jamie took the cup and placed it on the table, his slender fingers flicking the rim of the cup with a crisp sound. "I couldn't find you."He sounded lost.
"Oh." Marylin replied, "Didn't you say I would be coming to you tomorrow night?"
Jamie nodded and motioned her to come nearer. Then, he grabbed her by the waist and took her into his arms. He made her sit on his lap and took a few puffs of smoke, like a prank boy. Marylin was choked on smoke and coughed.
Marylin always couldn't pierce Jamie's thoughts because he did many inexplicable things. For example, tonight, he suddenly visited her rental house and asked her to sit on his lap and watch him smoke.
He finished a pack of cigarettes that filled half an ashtray. When he got up, he left a wad of cash on the table.
Marylin saw that he was going to leave, quickly picked up the money and gave it back to him: "No, you take it back."
Jamie stopped and looked at her: "You don't even have money to pay your phone bill. Are you sure you don't need it?"
Marylin nodded: "No, I don't. Take it back. I will pay you back the money I owed you before."
Jamie, who was already about to walk to the door, suddenly got irritated.
He went back to the room again, scrutinizing Marylin's face, neck, and clavicle. Suddenly, he laughed in a low voice. He pushed her body against the wall and asked vigorously: "Tell me where did you go tonight? If you can't, you won’t sleep tonight."
After that, he lit another cigarette and looked straight at her.
Marylin watched his gloomy face in the darkness and nervously trembled: "I didn't go anywhere..."
"Nowhere? Where did you get the money without going anywhere?" Jamie stared at her with a ruthless light gliding from the bottom of his eyes: "Go out to find another man? How much for one night of enjoying you ?"
Marylin shook her head, tears were about to drop.
Jamie sneered: "Marylin, was I being too nice to you? Don't you think you're not innocent enough?"
