Son-In-Law Gets an Upgrade novel Chapter 1240

Chapter 1240 Evil

“Mrs. Walker, tell me since she refuses to,” Alex said to Maria, who was under the stage.

Maria was sitting in the audience quietly. She was quite happy to see Kate in trouble. Unexpectedly, she got involved in this mess.

Alex insisted that Maria explain herself, but she didn't dare to. Now, she was certain that what she had said before was heard by Alex.

Left with no choice, she walked up the stage and glanced at Kate, feeling intimidated. Then, she finally turned to Alex and said respectfully, “Mr. Jefferson, I'm not sure what you want me to say... I-I don't know anything!”

“I heard everything you said previously. Did Kate threaten you to keep quiet? Don't be afraid to tell me everything you know. Even if you don't say it, I'll ask Stanley. There's no point in hiding anymore,” Alex said calmly.

When Emmalyn fell ill, Maria began to dislike Kate. However, due to her status as the lady of the house, she had always kept her grievances to herself. Now that Alex was willing to stand up for her, Maria decided not to hide the truth any longer.

“Mr. Jefferson, when you're not at home, Ms. Sutton often tends to give Stanley a hard time. She makes him, a six-year-old child, mop the floor, wipe the tables, and even do the laundry and cook. These chores are my responsibility, but Ms. Sutton wouldn't let me do them. She told me to focus on looking after Emmalyn and that it would be best to ignore her actions and not interfere. One time when Ms. Sutton was in Stanley's room, I heard him screaming that she wanted to kill him... I—”

As Maria spoke, she suddenly felt a chill run down her spine. Thus, she turned around and saw Kate staring straight at her. Kate's gaze was as terrifying as a little demon from hell coming to claim a life, which scared Maria so much that she didn't dare to continue speaking.

“Alex, don't listen to the nonsense this old woman is spewing. I have never mistreated Stanley. I never asked him to do any chores. It was Stanley who insisted on doing them himself. It has nothing to do with me. Why would I harm a sensible child like Stanley when I am a parent too? This old lady is spouting utter nonsense. She is framing me. Alex, you mustn't believe her words,” Kate explained as she played innocent as if she was truly being framed.

If Alex hadn't known Maria's character, knowing that she was an honest and decent person who wouldn't lie or falsely accuse Kate, he would have been deceived by the masquerade that Kate put on.
