Chapter 856 A Basement
By the time Alex returned to Green Mountain Monastery in the mountains, the sky was already pitch- black. The moon that was initially shining brightly had been obscured by the clouds.
Left with no other recourse, he could only take out his phone and turn on the flashlight to illuminate his way. Relying on the dim light, he cautiously stepped into the monastery.
Everything was fine in the beginning, but it felt increasingly ominous the deeper he went. That convinced him further that there was something different in that place.
He explored the whole place, but he found nothing. After a closer look at the puddle of blood he previously spotted, however, he had ascertained that it was human blood.
How could there be nothing at all?
He had decided to come over and investigate things because he wanted to see whether there were opportunities there, hoping that he could boost his capabilities.
After all, nothing ventured, nothing gained. He had always believed in that, but the outcome was contrary to his expectations this time.
Be that as it may, he was loathed to leave empty-handed.
Just then, a flash of something flittered across his eyes.
A possibility occurred to him-could it be that there’s a basement here? Stanley was confined in a basement when he was kidnapped back then.
At that thought, he flattened himself and plastered his ear to the ground, listening carefully. Indeed, muted footsteps drifted into his ear.
If it were an ordinary person, the individual would never have heard anything. However, Alex was a Master warrior, and he discovered the anomaly.
Sure enough, I hit the nail on the head! This Green Mountain Monastery isn’t as simple as it looks. Since there’s an underground passage and people, where’s the entrance? This place is exceedingly plain, with only the statue of Eona appearing brand new in the entire building, looking as though it had been commissioned in the recent past. Could the entrance be there?
No sooner had that notion popped into his mind than he swiftly raced to the main hall. He bowed at the statue of Eona before climbing up and turning it forcefully. As expected, it moved.
A hole the size of the mouth of a well came into sight. Unlike the pitch-darkness outside, a faint light flickered within.
He did not jump down right away. Instead, he carefully listened for a while outside to discern whether there was anyone lying in ambush down there. When there was no unusual movement after some time, he finally leaped down.
The instant he did so, a thud broke the silence. On the heels of that, he heard a voice shrieking a warning that someone had found the place, followed by a flurry of frantic footsteps.
He had no plans of making a move rashly in that cramped basement while also being unaware of the other party’s capabilities.
Considering his capabilities, he might cause the basement to collapse. At that time, he might be buried alive there, and that would be unfortunate.
Now that he had been discovered, he could only find someplace to hide.
