“Uh… I… Ahem!” Alex was left utterly bewildered by her words. Never in his wildest dreams did he his secretary to ask him to be her boyfriend.

Furthermore, he was caught completely off-guard by Jessica’s confession since he was in the midst of the preparations for his wedding with Maggie. 

Alex had always admired Jessica’s competence. Moreover, the latter was both pretty and resilient. It would be a lie to say that Alex did not like her at all.

Since he had already chosen Maggie, Alex was determined to give her all of his love and affection. As for Jessica, there was only one course of action-rejection. 

“I’m sorry. I have someone I like. In fact, you’ve met her before. It’s the woman who got off the plane with me, Maggie Grant. Besides, I’m already making preparations for our wedding,” said Alex honestly: 

It was a harsh truth, but Alex did not want to waste his time on something that had no future. 

Upon hearing that, Jessica felt as if a huge part of her heart was being ripped apart. The emptiness inside her was agonizing, tormenting her deeply. 

She had mustered all her courage to confess her feelings to him, despite knowing she was only ant ordinary person among the many others who liked the outstanding man. 

Even though she knew her chances were low, hearing those words come out of Alex’s mouth still broke her heart. 

Ever since Jessica developed feelings for Alex, she found it impossible to be attracted to any other man. It was as if Alex had set a standard that made every other man seem unworthy of her attention. 

Inhaling sharply, Jessica held back her tears and said to him, “I know I’m the most ordinary-looking and poorest woman among all your pursuers. However, I’ve fallen hopelessly in love with you. I’m even willing to be your secret lover, Mr. Jefferson. Can’t you let me remain by your side? Hm?” 

Jessica began to weep pitifully. It was impossible for any man to resist when such a beautiful woman spoke those heartfelt words. 

Moreover, it was a temptatious offer. The beautiful lady was willing to stay by his side and become his secret lover. There was no need to bestow her an official title, yet he could have fun with her at his whim. 

This was something every man had dreamed of, and even Alex was shocked to hear such a proposition. He did not expect such words to come out of Jessica’s mouth. 

What was more, Jessica was sobbing uncontrollably, glistening droplets streaming down her face. Alex could not stand women crying the most. He would be overwhelmed and at a loss over what to do in such situations. 

He frantically grabbed some tissues, wanting to wipe the tears off of her face and coax her to stop crying.
